I've never actually submerged my h2o . In early October, I was lucky enough to be on holiday in a place with a fabulous pool. I did spend time floating about on an air bed reading my h2o and didn't worry at all about it getting wet. Just because I own a Kobo h2o so I was going to do it, dammit. It did get splashed a bit, but I didn't dare put it under the water.
I love it mainly for the lovely big screen, solid build quality, and memory card support. Glad I took it on some water just because I can now say I did.

Why? The SW is not nearly as well-developed as Kobo's, and the backlighting is 2011 all over again (it's uneven and the LEDs at the bottom of the screen are much brighter than the rest of the screen).

Among the SW aspects I prefer on the Kobo vs. the I86ML+, it has a real English dictionary, crashes less often, and you have great control over font and size. On the Onyx side, it's real Android, so you can run other applications a lot more easily, but it starts to feel like an eReader kit to me.
Thanks for the interesting comparison. I have been looking into the Android readers, and they look nice, but really, my Kobo readers do what I want, so why should I bother with one of those others? Your post makes me see that I probably don't want to get one of those.

The first thing I did was taking a bath with it. And submerging it. I thought I'd better try that at home where I have replacements ready, rather than on holiday when I won't bring all my readers!

Got the H2O, and I love it.
It's 2/3 the weight of the Onyx i86, and the screen is the best e-ink display I've ever seen. Returning to Kobo's excellent control over typography is also a pleasure.
Capacitive touch really takes away contrast from e-ink - one more layer between you and the story - IR touch makes for a better display.
