I was wondering what you guys think about Amazon's official lighted cases (for older Kindles)? Their quality and durability etc...

Used mine for a couple of years, never had a problem with it. Found it to be as durable as all of my other Amazon official covers.

I had both the Kindle Keyboard lighted case and the Touch lighted case and they were lovely, by far some if the best cases Amazon produced, comparable to the Official Paperwhite.

Thanks to both of you. I was thinking of parting with my K3...

but after a few reads, I changed my mind. It's just so good. The feeling is similar to the that when after holding a modern book, you have the privilege to hold on a papyrus book in a museum! In fact, I decided to buy a lighted case for it and with your recommendations, I went ahead and bought one.

Off-topic:
I don't know if any of you guys have faced this issue: Battery is all fine from 100% to 70% but suddenly after that it goes down drastically to below 20%!!! Have you had same thing happening?

The k3 case is my favourite kindle case - it makes it feel like a book.

Has the battery perfomance changed since you fitted the case? Historically the non-lighted case caused issues with the battery. Double check and try the reader without the case. If your battery is dying , the k3 battery is easy to replace, a new battery off ebay and a very small screwdriver.

Sounds as if your battery is nearing the end of its life. A lithium battery typically has a lifetime of around 5 years, so if yours is an original K3 it probably will be approaching the end of its lifespan. Luckily, fitting a new battery to a K3 is a relatively painless process.

[Sorry. Expect a bit of off-topic stuff below. Not related to Kindle cases, if that's what you want to read, please ignore reading further.]

Thanks Harry and Mort1997. I think it needs new battery... well, to be exact both my Kindles show this symptom now regardless of having case on or not. I'll fix it. A question though: my Kindle is in pristine condition, no scratches or scuffs on it. Is there anyway to open the battery cover with least harm (which is to say without leaving nicks and scuffs around the openings etc.) From what it looks like on disassembly videos, it's a bit tough for spudger to get in there.

I'm happy I'll stick with my K3 for more reading. I don't know about you, but everything about it makes sense... (for my needs)
Spoiler:
I truly truly hope Amazon will get TTS back on KV2 but it's absolutely unlikely given this FCC agreement at least till 2016. I have tried all Paperwhites and Touch based Kindles (after KT) but because of lack of TTS, they're worthless to me, and it's very unfortunate.

I changed the battery on my kindle and it was OK. I was careful with it and took things slowly. I placed a towel on a flat surface and the kindle on top of that. The most awkward thing was getting a screwdriver small enough to undo the screws on the battery. Good luck!
