The only reasons I can think of to have a Fire is text to speech and Audible collections, there's nothing else any more they offer above an apple or android tablet and the apps.

Ok, on that 4k ultra hd fire Tv, do you need a 4k tv to get the full resolution?

I think I will leave wallet closed.

These are all getting Mayday ('soon'). That's interesting. But even so, I don't feel these are very compelling. A 10" tablet with 149ppi? it is 2010 all over again.

[edit:] but 'Word Runner' looks cool. My HD6 should get that in an update, however.

Bought the $50 one. Need a tablet for the gym, to watch some shows without fear of dropping the 128gb iPad.

You may be right. And Google app store and no lousy ads with that one.
The hardware on the Fire TV is impressive, I still prefer Roku because it is app-agnostic, no closed ecosystem. But Amazon is setting a high bar for video streaming devices.

Hhmmm, that's the same as the DigiLand mentioned above.

Hope their reputation doesn't take a hit if these devices act up after 90 days and no extended warranty was purchased.

Wonder if they "Googled" cheap tablets. Chose this one, reached out to the company, and slapped their name on it. lol

Plenty of those out there.

On those streamers, 4K and HDR are essentially zero-cost future proofing but there are people out there with displays that can use them.

It's a chicken-n-egg thing: you need content to justify the expense on the display and an installed base to justify the content so Amazon and netflix are stepping up to seed the market.
