Thank you all for the feedback. Regarding the first link of my previous post, the book was not ET enabled. But I can reproduce it with ET enabled books as well. In fact, my original annoyance before starting the thread was because of lots of books I've purchased from AMZN and downloaded and re-downloaded and double-checked were ET enabled, and also rendered with unjustified lines. (i.e. my first post links)

By now I understand it is an intentional behaviour.

Does anybody know about other brands of hardware readers with the same behaviour? (the software readers I know --kindle for iOS, google play books, iBooks-- all do full justification without "exception" lines if configured to do so)

Kobos do not do this. They have built in hyphenation that works pretty--and has gotten better in newer firmware versions. But occasionally you run across words on the Kobo that are hyphenated weirdly (eg: hyp-henated). That actually is more distracting to me than the Kindle's occasional large gaps at the end of a line.

That's due to kepub and the settings in the hyphenation dictionary. The two letter then hyphen can be fixed so the minimum is 3 letters and than a hyphen. RMDSK (ADE) work very well. I have a hyphenation dictionary that I use that seems to work better than the one that comes bundles with RMDSK. It is English only though.
