That video won't play. It counts down from 6 to 1 and just hangs there at 1. (I'm using a MacBook Pro with the current version of Firefox.)

Not sure what to say...it's a standard video on CNET. You can try a different browser or simply google Samsung Nook and look through the videos where you'll see the different B&N software. It is a different experience than the standard Galaxy interface. I like it better.

The real difference is that you get to read free ebooks while physically present in a B&N (standard B&N ereader feature), but only with the official GT4N.
![]() Of course, that requires you to go to a B&N, which may be a dealbreaker. |

It played fine using Safari. Thank you for the info on this. I'm tempted to get the Nook, but it will take approx. 4-6 weeks to get here, plus the cost for shipping may be about $50, in addition to the VAT expense. Hmmmm....... |

Hope this doesn't double post....Had a reply all written, went to preview, and Poof! Gone.
![]() Over the weekend, I traded in an SGT4N-7 for the SGTS2-8 at BB because they had a generous device buy-back and BN did not. Here are the differences I see so far in what the BN-shell Nook App has and what the generic Android Nook App does not: 1) Nook shell, widget, icon on the front page. I saw reference to a Nook widget somewhere while jumping around looking at things in the Android Nook App, but since I'm moving to CC on-device library management, I didn't pursue it. I'm happier to have the front page real estate. 2) No Read In Store - on the generic Android Nook App, it's all Read Free Sample. RFS insists on installing a few pages in your library like it's a book. You have to manually clean up after it (I delete it online in BN account or via my old NC....The Sammie line has lost delete on device, including my old SGT4N-7). I also like to look further into omnibus e-book editions to see if the individual books have covers (some do (a plus), some don't). If you like to sit in the BN store and actually read the whole book, RFS won't help you. 3) There is something seriously different about the way BN-shell Nook App handles side-loaded magazines and how the generic Android Nook App handles them. On my old SGT4N-7, my National Geographic magazines looked equally nice either method. On the SGTS2-8, direct downloads from BN look spectacular on that wonderful screen. Future-proofed and side-loaded back on via CC...it's just an epub - cover art and text. No beautiful photos. I even miss the Canon ads. ![]() ![]() |

![]() This really is a great tablet/reader. I can live with RFS instead of RIS (for $100), but I'd have gotten the BN version if price had not been so far apart. $50 coupon was close enough to $40 (10%) membership savings, but then BB gave $50 buy-back for SGT4N -7. |

Do you have a way to backup and/or future-proof BN magazines? I have never been able to find a way to do that. I would appreciate any direction you could give me.
Thanks. |

There are 3 steps:
1) Get the right (full?) format file. 2) Alf it unless that magazine is sensible like TOR is with books. 3) Side-load it back on a device with reader software that will view it right. For BN - perhaps like Amazon they send different formats to different devices, or maybe Nook for PC is just that old and buggy. Files from it are just cover, text, and a few small thumbnails. As I recall, NG magazine never displayed right in Nook for PC or at least not since I started the subscription in 2012. Files from my NC, however, do display correctly. I would bet the Nook Tablet would work too. I don't recall if the HD/HD+ line has accessible files. The Sammie Nooks (and Nook Apps) do not. Does your NST display the magazine right (except in B&W)? If so, you may be able to use the file from it. (If I remember correctly that NST has accessible files.) Try a file from the NST. If not, pick up a working NC or NT on ebay etc. If it needs a new battery, see www.newpower99.com or similar. I use Calibre with the tools to manage my library including NG magazine. (Pest Control, editing metadata, adding tags etc. so I can find things, then side-loading to my device for reading). The Calibre viewer will display the same cover/text/no photos whether the file is abridged (as from Nook for PC) or unabridged (from NC). I use Calibre Companion to manage the library on device (shelves/collections/tags and sorting). If the magazine file side-loaded was from an abridged source, you'll see the same cover/text/no photos version you saw in the Calibre viewer. If the side-loaded file was from an unabridged source, you MAY see some lovely photos depending on the reader software. I use the Nook App to read things on my SGT2S-8 and previously my SGT4N-7. I like it better than other reader software programs I have tried. I discovered this week the plain Nook App in Google Play did not correctly display magazine files I knew were OK from SGT4N-7 side-loading experience. After some chatter on the BN forum mentioned a special Kindle for Samsung App, I went looking for a Nook for Samsung ...found Nook for Galaxy Tab 4 in Google Play that was posted or maybe updated the day before. Back in business! It works on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2-8 also. Maybe other people with different tablets could see if it will work on their tablets. Or suggest other reader Apps that do a good job with photos or comics (there's a reference to something comic in the settings). Two potential flies in my honey : 1) if/when my NC dies, so does my subscription since I will likely not be able to future-proof any more. 2) My subscription may die anyway if I can't find any other software to read it with. Is Nook reader (for Samsung) really the only one? I can't imagine this is true. The value of epub is it can be converted if (when) formats evolve and reader software expects something new. If (when?) Nook for Galaxy Tab is orphaned and falls behind Android or whatever system software is in vogue at the time...is the format legible to anything else? Something tells Nook for Galaxy Tab 4 App to use Article View (and a lovely view it is). What? Is there another reader App that can also view this file correctly? Without understanding why it is working now, I am not confident of finding another device / reader software combo that can also read it in the future. |

Thanks for the info. I have an old Nook Tablet that I have not used for a while. It was working fine the last time I tried it. I will get it out and see if I can have any luck with it.
Thanks again. |

20% off of $400.00 for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Nook is $80. B&N membership is only $25, so that means a savings of $55.00 from $400.00 That's a pretty good deal, for a price of $345.00 for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Nook. (But don't forget tax.) |

I keep hoping they'll differentiate between Nook products. If the original Nook is worth $50, shouldn't the Nook HD+ be worth a teensy bit more? Especially since the original Nook is essentially a cupholder by now, whereas someone could be actively using an HD+, but be willing to upgrade, if the deal were a little sweeter.

The trade in offer would be great if they also let members use their discount. If they did, I would trade in one of my older devices and get this one. I have some old kindles I'm not using.

![]() Btw does anyone know if one could bring in multiple devices for the same credit? |
