I also fail to see why it should matter whether you download the book from the browser or the device...

I have not had a problem with the capacitive touch screen on the Aura. Maybe the newer firmware versions fixed the early problems; I did read about poor response, but mine performs well.

I think the reference to "poor screen" is to quality of display of text on the screen. A lot of people state that it is no better than the Glo which uses an earlier version of the e-ink screen. The extra screen layer for capacitive touch is usually blamed for this.

I have an Kobo Aura HD, great screen, just wish they had a light setting lower then 1% as i find that still to bright in a really dark bedroom while reading.
With my above average reading i do 3-4 weeks on a charge, and with above average i mean 120-150 books a year. What makes it heavier is the cover, without it the weight is negligible. The only real peeve i have with Kobo is their flaky firmware, every 2 -3 months or some such out of the blue Calibre notices an error and does not want to sync with the reader any more, only a log out and log in fixes it, but that throws out your reading history for all none Kobo books, i wish they would include those in syncs, as i read many books, and often multiples, it is a bitch when he forgets what i was reading :-( |

Just FYI, there is a new Kobo Touch 2.0 coming out Sept 9. It's the competitor for the low-end Kindle and is reputed to cost 89.

I'm suggesting that if there is not a valid ASIN that Amazon would not sync that eBook.

I hear that there is a way to get books loaded using USB to sync as well, but I don't use that method so I don't know it. Shari |

Since the Glo HD does not need an external light, will there be any light cases for the Touch 2.0? The Kindle Basic has no cover available for it with a light. Also Amazon did not build in the connectors for one of their light covers. |

Why reason do you have to suspect that Amazon's Personal Documents intake service would generate invalid ASINs? I am pretty sure Amazon isn't very likely to make such stupidly obvious mistakes such as this, but if you have evidence to the contrary... |

I've sent quite a few books to my Kindles via Amazon using Send to Kindle and directly emailing them. These are books purchased from several sources and the few that have DRM have been removed.
I'm nervous about doing this on any kind of scale, and by scale I mean more than one every few weeks. I'm not sure I'm breaking any law doing this although I'm not sure I'm not, either. I suspect that I'm violating various terms of service. Anyway that was mentioned a few times in this thread and I'm wondering if anyone feels that this is risky. I don't want to get in trouble with Amazon. I buy about 98% of my books from them. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or is this even a proper question to ask here. And if it's not, please just delete it. But if it is I'd like to know what people think about it. I should say that the majority of the books I send to my Kindle via Amazon's conversion are legitimately purchased somewhere. Barry |
