Which I guess helps explain why LIT is top of the pops in this list What are the best source formats to convert?

If you notice, list has mistakes. Mobi & AZW are the same thing. ePub is the best source format followed by KF8 and then LIT.

Synonyms simply exist to avoid confusion.
Just because you read the manual ...

Read the manual? Nope. I just know when a term is wrong like dual Mobi. The proper term is combination Mobi/KF8.

I saw you posting that irrelevant offtopic opinion in a thread in the Kindle forum, and I deleted your post. If I had moderation rights in the calibre forum, I'd delete this one too.
In fact, I would like to posit that this entire page of posts is irrelevant to the thread, and would be best consigned to the moderation bin.

Quibbling about the purity or not of the LIT format, and what if anything should be the One True Name of the even more irrelevant mobipocket family of formats, is a hobby horse that should be ridden elsewhere, posthaste.

But just for the sake of argument, you are still wrong, as KF8 is otherwise known as mobi8.
A hobby horse that can be proven wrong on purely objective facts is even less interesting than a merely offtopic hobby horse.

Amazon does not call it Mobi8. They call it KF8. Show me where on Amazon.com that Amazon refers to the format as Mobi8 and I'll concede to being wrong.

I have it. It works for what I want (except ebook reading). While it is still useful, I will still use it.
