So I finally bit the bullet and ordered an Axim x50v, my first foray out of the Palm world since the PalmPilot Personal.

The info and links here were very instrumental in my decision. Unfortunately, I gotta wait until Monday before they ship, Grrr.

You will love it, Thierry, I promise you! I still owe you guys a personal review, but due to some unexpected developments in RL I have to postpone these plans.

Thierry, I am looking forward to hearing about your new experiences!

Yeah, I can't wait either. It was you Alex, that convinced me to got with the Axim (at least indirectly anyway). I will of course share all my experiences here.

My big fear is not finding the applications that I want for the PPC, or put more correctly, that the applications work the way I want them to.

I guess so long as iSilo works...

iSilo works, and it works great (much much faster than on my Clie, especially with documents that contain a lot of formatting and tables). Other e-book readers like VadeMecum for Plucker documents work great too. I am not so happy about eReader because it doesn't support the VGA mode of WM2003SE. I will try to report more about this in detail soon.

In short this is what I've been doing lately with my Axim: Watch full-length movies with Betaplayer by streaming them via wireless from my local desktop PC; read e-books with iSilo and VadeMecum; play Ages of Empires and Bejeweled 2; browse the web online and read my e-mails via IMAP; listen to MP3s by streaming them from online radios via WiFi; manage my stocks online via WiFi; use all kinds of tweaks and utils to learn more about the underlying OS and how to keep things optimized and clean.
