And that is all they care about.
Its cheaper to just outright buy that one book then. Heck, I can easily get 2 books bought from publishers for the price. Most of the avon titles and many others cost only 4.99 and go on sale here and there.

Its also the overall treatment they giving out. Now outright lying to the customers. They were able to send a email to the publishers, they could have come up with something honest to the readers. Its this underhanded way they going about this that is really making me mad. I just paid for this months subscription with them, so I have a little time to go through my collections and write down my wishlists before I cancel.

I may be desperate to read, aren't all readers? . But I am not desperate to stay in a service that doesn't fulfill my needs and especially one that has such disdain for romance readers suddenly. The same folks they been courting like a swain for the last few months.

There is no lack to get books. I'll just shift my reading around. I have TBR piles, I have libraries, and now I have kindle unlimited again.

Funny thing is, I wasn't even using my scribd much lately. I am the kind of subscriber they want. I tried to get at least 4 books read with them to make it worth, but I read none in June and so far none in July. Life got in the way. But I was just about to pick up my reading there again and the stuff I planned is now gone. Oh well.

Good to know. I'll be careful. Might help to change payment method first. You know, to an old dead number first and then cancel. Just to be on the save side.

I cancelled and told them why. They ask you. And yes, be careful - you have to quit and quit and quit. Scroll each screen to the bottom to be sure you see all the quits.I got an email confirming I quit so look for that too.

I won't be cancelling, unless I run out of stuff I want to read/listen to. I don't see any of the gray bars or warning indicators on the books in my saved library.

But I have re-subscribed to the Brooklyn Library. I'm certainly not going to start buying a bunch of indie author books. Some of their arguments (i.e. hysterical whining) are ridiculous.

You should search for the authors you like, I noted that there are a number of books in my library that I can see, but when I searched for them they were nowhere to be found! When you tried to view other books by that author the majority of the authors books have mysteriously poofed!

I have no idea how long the books you have in your library will continue to be there if they are not showing up in the main catalog.

Also I heard back again from Scribd support, and they send me this link to what their CEO said, which is buried deep on their blog and doesn't even offer a way to give feedback (they are not worried about peoples reaction at all are they?)

First off let me say I have no horse in this race (I'm not a Scribd subscriber and I'm not a romance lit reader ). It's interesting to read that blog post. It looks like they are hoping to rotate enough books thru the romance section to keep those subscribers but at a reduced number of books read by each of them. Sounds like they're hoping to have enough to keep them by being just part of the source of material for those readers -- i.e. they'll maybe read one or two from there and get the rest of their monthly fill elsewhere, and be willing to come back the following month for the "new" selections rotated back in, repeat ad nauseum. That seems slightly less ridiculous than just cutting and hoping no one notices and cancels (but only slightly).
Obviously their model relies on a large number of subscribers that don't actually read enough to cost them more than they collect from them. I'm not sure I buy that this as a realistic long term model.

If you use PayPal, you can cancel the subscription via the PayPal account. That's what I would do when the time comes.

I mean in addition to doing so through Scribd's settings.

When I had a trial offer some months back, as soon as I canceled the recurring payment at PayPal, I don't believe I had to do anything at Scribd--the site immediately showed that my payment info was invalid.

They weren't kidding on that site. I just cancelled and its screen after screen with large button saying, I'll stay and small tiny links with continue cancelling. You have to give them feedback on the way, send that first and then still continue. I did get a bar saying I have cancelled and in my account it says I cancelled and I wont' have access after august 1st, but so far no email on that. I took a screenshot. I should have taken out my payment method first. Its not accessible anymore now, although its all x'd out. But I can't be sure its not still in their system of course. But can't do anything with that part once you cancel.

I’m so disappointed with scribd, I had read that they were cutting out in romance books and last week I received an email from the support saying that and to finish reading the books since they would be removed, and that those books would appear marked as expiring in my library, I checked the library and one or two books add that, but they were ones that I had already read so I didn’t pay much attention thinking that it would not affect my readings.

Last night I went to finish the book I was reading and a message popped up saying the book would became unavailable in less than one day, but when I tried opening it nothing happened, so I went to my library and lo an behold a lot off my books had the expiring mark, so I opened all off them to check the dates thinking off reading first the ones expiring soon, I checked all my books awaiting to be read, 56 of them and 38 had already expired with the same message as the one I was reading, off the rest off books 12 are expiring on august 10th and only 6 don’t have the expiring message.

My next payment is due on the 1st of the month and before then I will cancel, I’m disappointed because of the way they managed this process, I would pay a higher fee, I would understand if they increased the cost of my membership, because I know I’m not an average reader that reads a book or two a month, I’m in the 20 to 30 books a month.

something weird happened, the books that had disappeared from my library in the app because they said were expired turned up again, and most of them don’t have any message about any expiration date, they even had stored my reading place in the book that I was reading. They even have a new book that I was looking and was published yesterday.

Did someone noticed something similar? Is there any news about this, did they went back about dropping publishers?

Hmm...I just cancelled my recurring Paypal payment. It kind of made me sad, but to be honest, I think I've only read one book from Scribd in the last couple of months. I could have purchased that book for less than I paid for the monthly subscription. Now to go to Scribd and cancel there....
