I believe my brains will have to suffer some brain damage for me to call my Sony Reader PRS-505 such disgusting names as kindle....

When people see my dark blue 505 and ask if it's a Kindle, my first response is "no, the Kindle only comes in white".

I still get it noticed even though I don't really travel. I got a couple questions the other day while waiting for my car to be fixed. I get asked about it a couple times a week while reading while eating lunch. I had someone ask last night if it was like the Kindle. O had to sigh and explain that I wouldn't own a Kindle and that the Sony was much better for my purposes. It is still the most commonly used gadget I have other than my iPod. LOL

Prior to this post I thought people's inquisitive nature about the device had declined. But I realized it was me just not paying attention to folks when I'm reading. I started paying attention again and still see people glancing at the reader.

The funniest incident/comment was when I was on vacation on the Playas de Cabo San Lucas earlier this year. Two vendors where commenting on my device. Vendor one says to the second vendor "Hey look at that neat little computer that guy is reading". The 2nd guy replies "that bozo is probably just sleeping".

That's been my experience, except for me it's while commuting on the subway, occasionally on a train to Boston, etc.

I deny it! The bucket of ice cold beer, hot sun, and relaxing atmosphere made it impossible for me to sleep

When ever someone asks me about my reader I show them how it can displays pictures. 60 or 70 black and white photos of my last vacation usually shuts them up.

And again ;-)

A rather stunning german lady sat nexst to me at a restaurant last night asked about the reader.

And this morning a gent was highly enthusiastic about it wanting to know where to buy one... Where best to get books (I advised him about the growing library here amongst others, so if You've made it here hello ;-))

And after he got off another gent asked to have a look at the screen quickly before he got off.

Breakfast at the hotel on Saturday morning, reading Star Surgeon on the Kindle. The waitress was very interested in the Kindle and we talked where to get book readers and books.

Breakfast at the hotel on Sunday morning, reading Magic Bites in a mass-market paperback. The same waitress stopped by and indicated her surprise and confusion that I was reading a paper book instead of my neat device! So we had another discussion about *books* and reading in general.

It's the story, not the object!

Latest story: On a flight to Chicago yesterday, the guy sitting next to me noticed my Reader. Then he showed me his Kindle! What are chances of that happening? Great conversation about e-reading and the effects the two different devices have had on our lives. He said he's a big reader of periodicals - then downloaded the latest issue of Newsweek before they closed the door. I mentioned the website here and how much I've learned.

I got approached a few times(5 or 6 times so far) while travelling to work on the train. Some people already know about the reader and wanted to know how I managed to get it(Readers are not sold in Asia), some are quite amazed by the e-ink display's quality and wanted to know what the Reader is all about.
