My primary source (and choice) is always Amazon. After my purchases [from Amazon], I always convert to epub, so that I have two primary formats. ![]() ![]() After 2.5 hours, I aborted it. I'm going to try again today |

Unfortunately, I bought that some time ago, when they had a 50% off. Specifically, which PD translations in that collection are abridged? |

Countess de Charny is massively abridged. Seriously, about half of the book is missing. It also stops abruptly well before the actual novel ends... it's missing the last 300 or so pages. Chico the Jester is the 450ish page abridgment (the version I have is about 1100 pages, and is still abridged). I don't know if an unabridged version of the book exists in English, but there are far more complete versions than the one included here. ...if you're interested in Joseph Balsamo and Countess De Charny, the Marie Antoinette omnibus in the mobileread library contains the (mostly) unabridged versions. I guess this is an issue that's specific to authors in translation. It's not something that the Delphi collections of authors writing in English suffer from. Last edited by HarryT; 06-19-2015 at 12:34 PM. |

Well, I just now downloaded the Marie Antoinette omnibus edition.
Unfortunately, the chapter links to the Countess de Charney volume are all bad. Click on a chapter link and it take you back to the beginning of the omnibus! Do you know another place where that PD volume may be located? |

There are quite a few formatting issues with omnibus on this site, but it's still be best ebook version of Joseph Balsamo and Countess de Charney that I have found. I'd pay good money for a nicely edited ebook of this series. Not to completely derail this thread into a Dumas topic, but... If you are planning on reading the series, the versions of The Queen's Necklass and Ange Pitou in the Delphi collection are wonderful. I'd love to know where they sourced Ange Pitou, because the PG version is heavily abridged and the Delphi version is complete. |

I've made a few omnibus books of works in the past myself and I can't say for certain that all are totally free of errors, but one thing differs. I didn't charge anyone anything for them. I think if someone is selling a omnibus collection of an author's works that they owe it to the purchasers of said book to make it as clean a copy as they can. Which isn't to say free copies can be as choc full of mistakes as the poster wants either. Still there is a difference in expectation when you pay $ for a book I think.
Amazon is slipping a bit. I sent a complaint off the same day about the book in the OP and I still haven't heard a peep. Not only that the book which was .99 is now $1.99 to purchase! Edit 2: I have just sent off a follow up email asking them why I didn't hear a reply to my issue and why the faulty book hasn't been fixed/pulled but instead has gone up in price.
