I'm okay with just the guys. Actually, I work with mostly men, so it's reasonable that they would be the ones to check it out.

Wow, the author is a pretentious douche. I just got my kindle last week and while I'm still in my honeymoon phase with it, its all sorts of awesome. I just read 2 books that were still just in hardcover that I was waiting for in paperback. I came across this site when looking for ebook converters and read that article. One of my coworkers who saw it said it helped him make up his mind to buy one himself. He, like me, was waiting for more user feedback and a price drop before purchasing one. Amazon is brilliant for making the device double as a Point Of Sale, once people get past the sticker shock and see one in person I think many will take the plunge to get the reader.

I don't have any illusions about an ebook reader ever being cool, the last straw in my case was injuring my back moving boxes full of sci fi and fantasy books. I sold all my pulp sci fi and fantasy and now I can carry an entire library in a handheld device. In retrospect I could have used a hand truck, and spared my back but it was a wake up call nonetheless. The only thing cool about the ebook reader is it gets all the really dorky stuff off the shelves in my bedroom, which is one less thing to scare off girls

This is all well and good until your kindle starts feeling Neglected, or catches you reading print books or God forbid browsing the Sony website. Then she wont turn on for you, or mysteriously misplaces your favorite books. It goes on and on, Wait I hate it when I get . Never mind

i'm hoping that we'll eventually get a new smiley of the irony mark. i think it would come in handy around here.

I do not take my Kindle with me everywhere, so people would be hard pressed to see me with it.

On the other hand, I do take it with me whenever I am flying. I have to admit that I have been a bit surprised that I have not seen anyone else with a Kindle in an airport. I'm going on a trip next week, so I'll be on the lookout.

They're not plentiful ... certainly not like iPods or their equivalents. It's more like the personal DVD players. You might see one other on your flight. On a trip to/from Canada last month, I walked past a lady in first class who was reading on her Kindle and had talked with someone in the boarding area about the Sony he was using. That one flight had at least 3 people using electronic book readers, but it was definitely the exception.

Well, I live in a very (very) tiny town in Texas. I was at the grocery store today (with my shopping list on my Kindle) and ran into another Kindle owner at the store!!

I never would have known except that she's a friend of a neighbor of mine, and while I was showing it to my neighbor, she said "Oh, Janice over there has one of those too." So, I had to run over, introduce myself to Janice and tell her all about Mobileread and Feedbooks and other good places.

So ... there are at least two Kindle owners out here in the middle of freaking nowhere.

I had to look that up on a map ... it looks like I'm maybe a two or so hour drive from there. That town is SE of Austin, and I'm NW of Austin ... about an hour or so.

Although I've been in that area ... I came very close to purchasing a few acres in Bastrop County a year ago or near then ...

Oh .... maybe something less than two hours ... might only be an hour and a half. I'm right off of 71, which looks like it ends right above Cedar Creek. Well, let's put it this way ... it takes me about an hour to get to the ABIA (the Austin airport) from my house.

My mother moved from Austin to Cedar Creek some years ago. I'm thinking about getting a Kindle for her and I thought if you were close enough you'd have a clue as to how Whispernet works in that area. From the EVDO map it looks like it might be on the hairy edge of coverage.

OK .... so, the house is the little red dot, and I've tracked to how I would get to Cedar Creek from home.
