Nope.

Nor can we trust PC makers like Lenovo, who put out a press release that tried to paint the company as crapware addicts promising to go cold turkey but actually left plenty of room for the habit to go on indefinitely. (Spoiler: The trial versions of antivirus software that Lenovo plans to continue installing on new PCs bring them more money than all the other software combined.)

I bought my Lenovo Yoga 2 11 from Best Buy last July 2014. I checked and it doesn't appear to be infected with Superfish. I hope it isn't. I only bought it for running the few apps I've got that have no Mac equivalents, mostly programming apps for my various amateur radios. But I also occasionally use it to surf the web or even purchase items online. I've gotten away from Windows and Android devices. They allow too much crapware to be installed by manufacturers and phone carriers. You cannot get a smartphone from the big carriers without a shipload of crapware pre-installed, much of which cannot be uninstalled. I'm not a huge fan of Apple's over control, but at least we don't have all the pre-installed crapware.

I have to disagree. iOS 8.2 has all kinds of crap installed. 8.2 added an Apple Watch app that should NOT be part of iOS but should be available to download for those who buy an Apple Watch. Apple has other apps that are rather useless space wasters that should be able to be deleted if the user doesn't want them. It's getting worse and not better.

If one truly wishes to avoid preinstalled crapware, they can do as I did and build their own system, from the minimal binaries necessary to boot to a commnd line, on up. https://www.archlinux.org

That still works...
