Short time H2O owner here. No problems on a stock unit that will probably remain stock. Sure is nice to lay in a hot bath and pour through some pages without worry. On first setup, the unit autoloads the latest firmware (if net connected) so any problems from prior versions should be resolved. This is a first experience with ereaders so have no comparison. Go for it and enjoy.

For what it's worth,
I've had my H20 for about three months now. I read side-loaded epubs and Pocket articles on it every day. I've had zero problems. |

I bought the H20 a few weeks ago. Read it every night. No problem whatsoever so far.

Going by some of the mentions of Alyssum in the current firmware, I suspect it is a 6" device with a 300 dpi screen. The minimum font size in pixels is an example of what leads me in that direction.

Sounds as if it might be using the same 6" 300dpi screen that the Kindle Voyage uses.

I've had mine since the end of November. No problems other than occasionally I have to tap the screen more than once to turn the page. It's a darn nice machine.

I've had an H20 nearly since launch (I pre-ordered, but they didn't get my unit to me until a few days later).
I haven't had it freeze that I can remember, and most if not every major issue I've had with it can be traced back to me screwing up on using a hack on it. Those major issues were easily resolved with factory resets, which were very easy to do. The only real issue I've had is a slight sluggishness in touch response compared to other ereaders I've used and/or seen. This shortcoming is more than made up for by the features that Kobo offers 1) 6.8 screen 2) sideloadable fonts 3) font adjustability 4) openness to user modification (all those wonderful patches and various other user tweaks). |

I have my H2O now several months and Iam very happy with it.
I came from a Aura HD and the difference in clarity of the screen made me buy it directly. I have the newest firmware 3.13.1 with the patches from GeoffR installed and this combination is working very well for me. |

I have my H2O for a good month and I am delighted. So far I've had no problems.
I read only books without drm sideloaded with calibre and library books with adobe drm. My only complaints are the images. They can be very small in some books and this can be annoying when trying to see a map in a book. I had the same problem with some children books, the images were mostly to small. And I tried a Charlie brown epub from the library once and it was not readable because only 3/4 from every page was displayed. |

On the image comment, I noticed this as well. Just about a month back, I added the KSM07 Menu, and started using CoolReader(which I liked to use with the Nook STR),
and looking at the same books with images i noticed that coolreader renders them larger.. May be something to try.. See: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=255978 It works fine on the Kobo Aura H2O. JFeole |

For cover images, I use the svg wrapper technique which I prefer for full screen images. Other images I use a % width or height setting depending on the aspect ratio of the image. The first example is what I normally use for cover images so the cover image is automagically scaled to as near to full screen as the aspect ratio allows. In the 2nd example, the publisher used a height setting of 100% which works until the 100% height makes the width greater than the screen width. The 3rd example used no styling so the a 450x600 image will take that many pixels regardless of the display resolution -- also the creator of the 3rd example didn't bother to use any centering code. Code:
<style type="text/css"> @page {padding: 0pt; margin:0pt} body { text-align: center; padding:0pt; margin: 0pt; } </style> </head> <body> <div> <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" height="100%" preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet" version="1.1" viewBox="0 0 545 819" width="100%" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><image height="819" width="545" xlink:href="../Images/cover.jpg" /></svg> </div> Code:
<div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="image" height="100%" src="../Images/cover.jpg" /></div> Code:
<div><img alt="" src="../Images/cover.jpeg" /></div> Last edited by DNSB; 03-19-2015 at 04:24 PM. |
