I think that's overly restrictive. Perhaps once a title is nominated and doesn't win it can't be nominated again for a few months. Although monitoring all of the different rules may quickly become a hassle.

But I do like the idea that a lot of the books nominated don't cost anything, or only cost a few dollars. I wouldn't want a situation where I'd be looking at spending AU$15 each month because very new titles where always being selected.

That is already the case. A book that is fully nominated but doesn't win cannot be renominated for 6 months. The one exception is the second chance month. If the book wins it can't be nominated again later.

And there is no rule saying that a given member has to read the actual winner during a given month either. All it means is that the book they are reading is/isn't the book under discussion after the reading time.

True, but perhaps the description at Goodreads will make it appear more appropriate to the Romance month:

OK - while I didn't vote for it, I do have this book on my "Must read before I die" list.

The description mentions nothing of any sort of romance.

I don't know how much of a romance it is as I haven't read it, but this is part of the description I got from Amazon:

The Age of Innocence is the haunting story of the struggle between love and duty in Gilded Age New York told through the eyes of Newland Archer and his betrothed, May Welland. A young lawyer on the rise, Newland Archer needs only a society wife to solidify his position, but finds himself torn after he meets and falls deeply in love with May’s disgraced cousin, the Countess Olenska.

It was also classified as a romance at Amazon which may or may not mean anything.

Love, marriage, divorce, and a possible triangle..yep sounds like a Romance read to me.

This is also on my TBR, so I really hope to get to it. I filed miserably with last month's selection (Which I do plan to read at some point, as well).

I've already downloaded The Age of Innocence, but I also bought Tigers & Devils and I'm really enjoying it. Positively whizzing through it. It reads a bit like good quality chick lit, but with M/M romance. Fun so far.

And it depends on the parameters of what you mean by 'romance' as well. Books like 'el Cid' at one time were considered romances. The meaning of the term has changed over time.
