I stand corrected I thought the books you were referring to were downloaded by calibre "Fetch news" feature. Which downloads news items, places them in a book then auto syncs those books when a device is attached.

Some clarifications are probably in order.
Fetching news and "Connect/Sync books" have little to do with each other. Fetching news is totally controlled by calibre. When a device connects, calibre sends the news. The device has no choice. It receives books. Sync books is a wireless device feature where the device (CC) asks calibre to compare the time stamps for book files in the library with the time stamps that CC has. If the calibre time stamp is newer then calibre sends the book to the device, otherwise nothing happens. By definition this works only with books already on the device. The process does not care how that book got there, so news "books" in calibre will be checked and resent if the file in calibre is newer than the file in CC. Further, the sync books feature doesn't interact with connections. CC first connects. Once the connection is successful it tells calibre that it wants to do the time stamp checks. In other words, CC will get to "Seeing what metadata calibre needs" before sync books has any effect on the process. It is true that sync books can interact with news because the "news books" are just books, subject to the same rules as any other book. If calibre changes the file when news is fetched instead of creating a new book then things might get confused. I am not sure which would happen first, the book sync or the news auto-send. |
