At the time, I didn't realize it was a permanent change. We also had Prime for the Amazon tv/movies. Now, having realized earlier this year that a) the switch to USPS and so-called Fedex Home is permanent, and apparently unfixable/unaddressable, and b) having seen the quality of the TV/Movies available via Amazon Prime, I shan't be renewing.

Frankly, never in a million years, having been a Prime customer since the day it started, would I have believed that Amazon wouldn't FIX it. I have been gobsmacked by their cavalier attitude toward it. I can only assume that the number of people it affects is relatively nominal, in their overall business--far more urban customers, or so rural that they DO have their own mailboxes, and thus, mailmen/persons who will drive up the drive. I'm in some netherlands of neither.

So no: I won't be a Prime customer in 2015. That they are screwing around with delivering things to people in an hour, or even considering drones, and ignoring everyone in a house that's younger than 35 years old, and NOT in the City...well, that's their business.

I remember fighting with the Post Office in 1986, building an upscale subdivision, and being told about the new rule--all community mailboxes, all the time, for ANYTHING being built post '85--so it's not like this is new news to Amazon. The bottom line is, they simply don't care enough to address it. The aggravation, to them, of a few disatisfied customers, compared to what they save using the substandard USPS service, is obviously a cost-benefit analysis that they've done, and decided NOT to fix. They're all very nice about it, but there's simply no good way for it to be "fixed" from my standpoint, other than shopping elsewhere.

Given that the prices at Amazon aren't the lowest, any longer--all the prime items have the extra shipping fees already built in--I just don't see any advantage for us going forward.

This is what I don't understand. It must be a regional thing, because for me, USPS and Fedex are very rarely used (and I have no idea what "Fedex Home" is...if I ever got a package delivered using that service, I didn't know it) 99% of everything I get from Amazon is from UPS.

FedEx Home is USPS as a FedEx subcontractor for ground delivery. Often but not solely "last mile" work. Similarly, USPS subcontracts a lot of their next day Express Mail to FedEx.
I suspect that if Congress allowed it, they would have merged a long time ago.

I used to be UPS only but Fedex and USPS are being used more frequently. Amazon has had to replace packages delivered by my incompetent Post Office a few times - the last one was left near the mailbox which is right next to the road. I suspect it was never delivered at all because it had the same exact deliver time as a package from the day before and my hubby came home shortly after and didn't notice a package.

My Post Office has been having packages delivered at a different time than the regular mail so they should know to walk it up to the door if it won't fit in the mailbox.

Most of my Amazon orders this past month have been delivered by USPS. Everything arrived on time and intact.

By the way:

One of the things I didn't mention, in my previous post(s) here on this topic is that our "mailmen" are not, in fact, "mailmen" or "mailpersons" or whatever they are called. They are contractors. Apparently, this "no delivering to the door" issue is pretty widespread wherever the P.O. uses contract labor, rather than actual mail carriers.

FWIW. Gosh, I'd love to get those "no rush shipping" credits, (and use 'em for books), but I can't even risk THAT!

At home, I have been getting packages delivered by the Post Office, usually in about 4 days (Non-Rush shipping, which we used to buy Supernatural which we are binge watching after dinner). 2-day shipping has fallen to 3-days when they use the post office. At our vacation place (2 hours outside Boise), 2-day shipping is either 3 or 4 days. But this place is soo remote, I understand. I still love Amazon Prime for the music and the movies.
