I dont know about the ratio of owners, But if you look at the Thread count in the Forums The Sony has as many thread as all the others combined minus the iRex Iliad. It could be that the Sony has the biggest following or other owners are have found Device specific forums.

As Patricia already said, because the gender field is optional, most people tend stay "gender-neutral" here. Of 18266 registered members, 1858 claim to be male (~10%) and 363 to be female (~2%). The majority (16045 users) hasn't made up its mind yet.

If we take the number of males and females as a statistically relevant sample (which probably most people would disagree with given the relatively small total number), we could conclude that at Mobileread, ~84% are males and ~16% females.

clearly, ebook forums are the place to go to meet guys. also people (/ hedgehogs / squirrels...) of uncertain gender. possibly the overwhelming majority here are hermaphrodites or trans-gendered people, so the binary choice "male / female" does not apply.

i suspect that for whatever reason, women are perhaps more reticent about indicating their gender (i can think of a few reasons for that, and i'm sure there are others which haven't occurred to me). i can't actually remember whether i indicated mine when i registered... if it was an optional question, i probably skipped it, as i do with most optional questions when registering anywhere. EDIT : nope, i just checked in my profile, and it does say i am female, so i must have replied after all.

i doubt the sample can be accurately extrapolated to be representative of the entire population, however i would not be surprised if there were in fact a majority of men, but with the difference being significantly less dramatic than in the sample.

The Amazon and KindleKorner fora drive me nuts with their format. There are some lively discussions there, but this way of doing things makes it a lot easier to get a gestalt of what people are finding interesting in e-books.
