HEY, HEY, HEY ..... no badmouthing of the PC people here!! I'm a female who builds them for a hobby .... and I LOVE them. (I just don't expect love in return ... let's be realistic here.)

You are the rare exception, apparently.

Nice to know you are out there. Even if it is in Tampa (which I am told is the redneck capitol of the world .... is that really true?? Never actually been there.)

Just built my DH a PC over the week-end, it's the latest in a series of PCs I've built. I'll probably take mine off line this week to do some upgrades. New case, new motherboard, another internal hard drive, ATA optical drive, new CPU fan, round cables, additional memory, etc....

I don't think it is true. You know what they say about Florida... the further south you drive the further north you get.

When I think of rednecks, I don't think of Florida, I think of Alabama and Louisiana. That was even before I moved here.

Is the Kindle for women?

Today it seems strange that it was even a question.

Eight years can see a lot of changes in viewpoints. At one time it was considered scandalous for women to ride bicycles. That was because of how women wore dresses back then though. Not sure why ereaders would have been considered gender specific.

Way to necropost. It's a thread last posted in 2008 and it gets posted with nothing to add to it.

Please someone close this down.

There are no rules against posting to old threads, Jon, and the poster is perfectly entitled to do do.

The only time we consider it inappropriate is if someone answers a years-old question which can be of no possible relevance to anyone.

I saw the title of the thread come up under a related topic and had to click. I found it interesting to look back at how we viewed eBooks then compared to now. I figured other people might enjoy going back in the time machine too. Sorry if it freaked you out a bit.

Nothing wrong with remembering/comparing the past.

Of course, we all know that the reason most ebook readers are middle-aged women is because ebooks are mainly good for mommy p0rn.

Gotta love these zombie memes.
Yeah. "They" still say it today, so why would it be surprising to think "they" said it back in the day?

Not all of us though. lol. I enjoy being able to read a good book. I would sit outside to read but it's been too humid of late to really enjoy the summer weather.

And I can't take this poll - if I say "yes", it implies that the Kindle is only for women and if I say "no" I'm saying it's not for women - both of which are silly.

Kindle is for *readers*.
I agree. I am a gadget addict and I am very much female. Sad that these stereotypes still persist. I also don't care for romance novels. My tastes run to contemporary literature, sci-fi, horror and non fiction. I have never read Fifty Shades of Crap and don't plan on ever doing so.

I see plenty of men on the commuter rail and subway with kindles, BTW.
