I chose "Whatever the mood hits me to do." I have a Kobo Aura HD as my primary reader, which has pretty much my entire ebook collection on it. I also have a Kobo Mini that I keep in my purse for on-the-go reading. The Mini usually just contains a selection of favorites, though I'll add what I'm currently reading if I expect to have reading time at an appt or lunch. Keeping some favorites is good for situations like the several hour emergency vet visit this past summer, when I just needed distraction while the cat was being observed. (Kitty is fine.)

On my laptop - the "mothership" for all my digital media - I have installed:
Calibre, Dropbox, apps from major ebook sources (e.g., Google Books, Kindle, Kobo, NOOK), elending apps, selected audiobook apps (e.g., Acoustik, Audible, Downpour), and Media Monkey. I download most of my files here and back them up elsewhere, both in the cloud and when backing up my entire hard drive.

On my smartphone and NOOK HD (both Android devices) - the satellites for my digital media - I have installed: Calibre Cloud, Calibre Companion, and Dropbox to interact with Calibre, Moon+Reader Pro as my ereader, and all of the other above-mentioned apps. I typically download to these satellite devices only files I'll need when on the go; the rest I leave in the cloud and on my laptop's hard drive.

In Calibre, I catalog the audiobooks and ebooks I own, along with useful metadata. I use empty files for audiobooks and for ebooks I can't or won't download.

In MediaMonkey, I import all of the audiobooks I own and duplicate their metadata from Calibre.

In Goodreads and Business Tasks, I keep track of books I want to read, those I've read, and any notes or comments I want to save about them; library books I've placed on hold and where; and books I'm currently reading, with their library due dates or dates by which I must read them for other purposes (e.g., in preparation to deliver a lecture or to discuss them at a meeting).

Going with the post title I "manage my books with calibre. I "distibute" them mostly by type. PDF and CBR files I put on my Kindle Fire along with illustrated books. Textual material and books with line drawings or minimal illustration goes on my Kindle PW.

Ahh, perhaps bad title but still the kind of answer I am looking for.
I too manage my library with calibre, spending an hour or two here and there just updating metadata, TBR list etc. An indispensable program for me which I am happy to support. Must donate again soon.

I don't do CBR or PDF etc.on my reader but if I ever do they will for sure only be on one. I prefer my Surface Pro 3 for those things. But to each their own. And managing my library with calibre does not tell me which books to put on which reader Dammit. Obtuse of me.

I may be doomed to buying more eReaders just so I have everything sorted
to perfection and accessible almost instantly.

I said "I have the same books on some/most/all of them."

I have all of the books in my main Calibre library on my Sony.

My Kobo has books I often reread as well as a subset of books on my TBR list.

My Nexus (via Calibre Companion) has all of the books in my main Calibre library, all of the books in my Undetermined library (which contains new-to-me authors), and most of the books in my Vault library (which used to be just books I'd already read and wanted to keep but didn't think I would reread any time soon, but has morphed to include unread books by authors already in my Vault library and a few new-to-me authors where I puchased an entire series and put them in my Vault library before I created the Undetermined library.)

Most of my non-fiction books I only add to whichever device I will actually read them on and then they get removed from the device once I am done.

I chose that I have different types/genres/authors on each so I can switch books without abandoning or forgetting one. Kindle basically contains all my books suitable for all ages in case my nieces would borrow them. That's exactly where I put all the fitness, science and children's books. Haha.

I don't use my nook. It's really just a backup in case something happens to my kindle. I'd use it for a few days whilst I secured a replacement. I have my entire collection on my kindle and about 80% of my collection is on the nook.
