I made a mistake. I didn't install the python package first. So, I still don't "have" the screensavers hack, per se, afaik, nor the font hack, only the menu items. Do I need to uninstall anything or can I do the python install and then reinstall both?

The font hack info shows on the KUAL menu, but no fonts show when I go to change them.

@pghaworth: You can just install Python right now, no need to uninstall/reinstall anything, it won't be terribly different (the first run of the Python scripts will just be slower).

Note that in the ScreenSavers Hack's case, it's only needed for the cover mode. (And that you'll need the latest snapshot version for it to work at all on FW 5.6.x).

Keep in mind that you can just chuck everything in one go with the MR Package installer, and it'll take care of everything, mostly in order

I do want the cover mode so I need it.

I'm a little worried about bricking my new PW2 otoh I did install the rescue pack yesterday. I want the fonts but I know some of the stuff will jack you if you don't know what you're doing. Any words of wisdom with the KUAL items for the font hack?

Also, are there some links or images for what fonts work best with Kindle?

ETA - I did my installs from your screenshots, except for the MR and jb. The files tar.xz really bake my brain for some reason. I need to get over it.

I can also confirm that JB and MKK survive update to 5.6.1 and that the MR Installer functions....I have installed the screensaver hack and python and they appear to have installed (proper folders can be seen in the root directory) however I am unable to get any version of the screensaver hack to work. I have reinstalled both the python and screensaver bins through the MR Installer individually and together multiple times and have done multiple restarts (USB cable not attached) with no joy. Also, when I try to do a framework restart through KUAL, it hangs on the tree screen.... suggestions?

Just read latest post... will try snapshots.

@pghaworth: Stay away from the Sans override, and test stuff thoroughly before rebooting. Ideally, a USBNet shell opens helps in case things go awry, but then again, only if you're quick and know what to do (although some of that is spelled out in the Fonts Hack first post). If you happen to have a Touch, doing your initial testing there would also be a good safety net (since those are nearly indestructible, and if something works there, it will most likely work on the PW/PW2).

@GoSharks: The hang on framework restart is... weird. For the record, at which point of the progress bar was it hanging? (And which hacks had you already reinstalled at that point?)

First...I am reinstalling via snapshots.
Second...It hangs at the end of the progress bar filling. Light stays on, kid at tree is visible, just nothing after that. Have waited 5 min by clock (thought I was impatient). If close cover and reopen, a stock screensaver is obvious for a second then the tree and finished progress bar is visible. Only way to progress is to long reboot via power button.

All that I have added via Kual so far is Battery% (which works) and screensaver and python (though I have not yet redone python from snapshots as I am having trouble getting it to decompress without error).

I can't get the ss hack to work either, even after python install. I've tried various things and nothing seems to work.

I got the same hang, as well.

@GoSharks: Hmm. I'll take a look at it again this week. I'm guessing it'll still hang with the snapshot version, so maybe don't push it for now

On a sidenote, since you mentioned the rescue pack, be aware that the update killed the trigger part of that, so it's useless until reinstalled

Oh, this is new. I did a quick reinstall of the python, fonts, and ss hacks thru KUAL/MR. Everything seemed fine. Did a restart from the menu and now on reboot it says for everything I try "this content has been removed and is no longer available". Hah! I did another restart and everything is literally gone. I have a feeling I no longer have jb, too. I'm going to do some testing - maybe not right now, but I will need to do it. It seems they have some surprises in store for us.

I have nothing but my cloud folders now, all empty, no content and I did not do a reset.

Amazon completely wiped me. No JB, nothing, all gone. Glad I used my one from the bedroom.
