This actually saddens me because I really, really want K4pc to get the cloud collections so that I can go back to using that to maintain my collections and can turn the wifi off on my pw2.

It works fairly well. The lowest level indeed finds word that I find difficult. I learnt the word "settee" :-). You should try to download a book that says it's Enabled on the store website. I think samples work as well.

Yes, that's correct.
However, not all Amazon books are Word Wise enabled. Look for "Word Wise: enabled" in the book description.

A free Amazon book that is known to be Word Wise enabled is a A Tale of Two Cities.

This is how enabled WordWise looks with A Tale of Two Cities. There are 5 level of hints, from fewer hints to more hints.

First pic is the lowest level (fewest), second pic higher level (most).

Does "out of town" really need to be redefined as "located away from a town?" Actually, since "go" is used, it really should be "leave a town." Or "robber" redefined as "a criminal who steals?" (Why not "a criminal who robs?" -- oh, wait a minute ...) Then "highwayman" -- which is a word that really could use a definition -- gets the vague "one who steals." Yeah, but ... but, there's a lot more to it than that. And then they have "awake" defined as "to stop sleeping," -- which is inaccurate in context. They're defining the verb "awake" instead of the adjective "awake," i.e., "not sleeping." And they have "publicly" defined as "by most of the people?" -- when it should be defined as "without concealment, openly." And "suspicion" (in context) would better be defined as "slight degree ... hint," instead of "a feeling of doubt."

I'm not seeing much in this feature that's worth a lot, if this page is of indication of its accuracy.

Please keep in mind that wordwise is not supposed to replace dictionary definitions, but is a help while reading. It is aimed at people who are not English native speakers, and maybe also at kids. We are not native speaker and my kids (14 and 10) thought yesterday this was great to help them read in English.

You are obviously not concerned by this, and wordwise can be enabled and disabled in the settings, so just disable it and there you go....

@rcentros, you bring up some good points, but I have to agree with aceflor. The definitions are kept simple and general enough to help someone read. If someone needs more details, he/she can just tap on the word to get a more specific definition, along with an example sentence.
As a side note, I actually think "robbers" is a difficult word for a language learner.

When the word is not defined correctly -- in context -- that's not a help, it's a hindrance. It leads to confusion, not clarity. And, even where the word is defined correctly but is redundant, as in redefining "robber" as "a criminal who steals" -- it's just a distraction. I have no problem with the concept of WordWise, but if the page you linked is a typical example, it looks about useless (actually worse than useless when it mis-defines words in context).

Again, nothing wrong with the concept, it's the execution that is lacking. When "awake" is mis-defined (in context) as "waking up," and -- if this kind of error is typical in WordWise -- it's worse than useless.

I'm not sure, but it seems wordwise works on every x-ray enabled book, not necessarily need to be amazon's original

It would be better for all concerned to take discussions of jailbreaking, hacks, etc, to the "Kindle Developers' Corner" sub-forum. This main forum is intended for discussions of the "standard" firmware, and use of the Kindle, not how to hack it.

Thanks.
