LOL, nope keeping my $19 one, just gonna have to print a picture and fancy it up in a box for the hubby. Though I may end of cancelling it because this is going to go with a tv for his "man cave" and if I buy a smart tv, which I probably will because they are all smart tvs nowadays, there really is no need for the device. But not going to make that decision until I get the tv.

That's not true.....at least in the 32" size, which usually is the best price. The last time I checked smart TVs were MUCH more expensive. You can get a 32" HD TV for $179 - $199. Probably cheaper on black friday. Just try to get one with at least 2 HDMI outlets, and make sure they are not pointing toward the ground, unless you plan to put it on a wall. (Yes we have one like that, very annoying. We also have one with not enough HDMI ports, and had to buy a splitter). So figure out how many HDMI ports you need. Three should probably be the minimum (1 for the cable box, 1 for the Xbox, 1 for the Streaming device....you get the idea!)

Maybe it is the stores in our area. Best Buy, Target and Sam's Club all had smart tvs. The last time we bought a tv, over 3 years ago, when we looked they were all smart tvs. Maybe it was due to the size, since we were looking at 50-60" tvs at the time. But I am looking for a 27-35" size but smart tv, hd and hdmi ports are the main features I am looking for.

Don't forget to check Amazon. We have bought a couple of TVs from them.

In that size range, I believe it's still possible, with enough research and some luck, to buy a set with a better picture at a lower price if your forgo smart features.
Also, there are some highly functional HDMI switches on Amazon for under 10 bucks, so if you find a gorgeous set with too few ports, you can fix that. I'm very happy with the 3 port HDMI smart switch I got, with my ~$300 42" LG non-smart TV. My NEXT set, however, will probably be much larger, smarter and more expensive...just waiting on those lottery numbers to hit.... |

I have two small HDMI Vizios that I bought from Amazon for less than $145 each that have been doing us good for a few years now. They don't have good side views, but the screen is nice. They have bigger ones at the ~$200 range that I'd go for again that use the same tech.

Don't forget that a lot of the blu-Ray/DVD players have "smart" features, too, and can give access if the TV doesn't.

If I get a smart TV and plug in my Fire Stick, does that mean I get twice as much Netflix?

I just got my Fire TV Stick today. I cannot recommend this POS to anyone, not even the North Koreans!
![]() Once set up it takes over my TV and will not allow me to change volume, any TV settings, and worst of all it will not allow my to switch away from the HDMI input on which the Fire TV Stick is plugged in. So plug it in and set your TV to the Fire TV Stick HDMI input port and you are stuck. Fire TV works, but without the ability to change the volume, mute, or make any other TV setting changes. To go to another input port, that is, change back to cable or BluRay player, I have to get up and pull that GD POS stick out of the input port to regain control of my Sony Bravia TV. And not only that but the video quality totally sucks compared to my U-Verse TV reception. The Fire TV Stick provides a very dark and low resolution image, even though it is set to 1080p at 60Hz. What a POS. Even crappy Time Warner Cable reception blows this thing out of the water. My Apple TV is way better. A coloring book is way better! It is going back as soon as I have time to rebox it and take it to UPS. |
