Thanks! I will download it and he will look into it (I wouldn't know ). Simplified would be great for him.

I chose the Amazon ecosystem because of the selection of books and mostly at the time because of Whispernet. Way back when, Sony made really good readers but had a lousy store and Syncing was a joke. I loved the way Amazon's Whispernet allowed me to read a book on multiple Kindles, and later on multiple platforms, and never lose my place or bookmarks, or notes, etc. By now other companies have probably added syncing features that might be comparable, but several years ago only Amazon provided what I wanted in that regard. And the ease at which Amazon syncs up everything is nice. With the old Sony readers you had to connect each one of them to a computer via a cable then manually sync. WTF, and what a waste of my time. I think they added WiFi syncing later, but I never heard much good about it.

I've been using e-ink readers since the early days of the first model Sony introduced internationally. I've also owned a first android-based nook which I've had really high hopes for, but in the end I converted to Amazon, mostly because:
1. Hardware -- at the point I converted it was superior to competition.
2. Wireless delivery (and not just for myself, but the older relatives who can't figure out online shopping but learnt how to use a kindle).

So the ecosystem came bundled with that.

While I have nothing but praise for the Amazon CS, there's plenty not to love about amazon as a company. How about:
1. In the early days they were caught on displaying higher prices on books to registered/logged-in users than unregistered visitors to their web-site. Because you know, once you're suckered in, you'll pay a few bucks more.
2. The way then lean on kindle cover manufacturers and strong-arm them into paying outrageous royalties -- a few times higher than any other product sold thru amazon retroactively 6-12 months after they've agreed to a normal percentage.
3. From what I hear from people who worked there -- nobody is irreplaceable attitude toward the employees.

You call the sony store back then lousy, but it was still better than their efforts in other countries, the uk just got a link that took them to a 3rd party site rather than a proper store.

Once amazon launched the kindle properly in the UK I quickly switched over to them, the combination of good prices, wide selection and ease of use for the kindle easily overcomes any other minor issues that seem to bother some people a little too much.

I chose Amazon because at the time I frist encountered ebooks, Amazon was practically the only shop where I could buy english ebooks. Due to country restrictions english ebooks were very hard to get in Switzerland at that time and so, when the first kindle was available for international orders, I bought one and ever since stuck to it. Was never disappointed so far.

I can't say that I have. I started with a rocket and am still ticked about it.

I think I have more books with Amazon than at Baen, but it's probably pretty close. More of the Amazon ones are freebies. With the fictionwise and ereader moves to Barnes and Noble I have a fair number there.

I don't trust any of the stores and have my books backed up. I've had books disapear from Baen so that I can't download them any more. I don't trusy BN or Amazon any better.
