I would never consider this issue, nor any other visual imperfections to eInk readers, to be a form of mass hysteria or mass hallucination. There are many cases of documented mass hysteria and mass hallucination, especially if you read the sightings reports for UFOs and ghosts and what not. But in all fairness, the more educated and intelligent people are, the less likely they are to be persuaded by or subject to mass hysteria or mass hallucination. Most of the people with Kindles are going to be educated and intelligent because they read, and usually read a lot. To even consider such a thing as mass hysteria or mass hallucination to be a factor is not only insulting, but extremely unscientific in approach. It is unscientific since there are rational and logical reasons that can easily explain the screen issues which make much more sense than to blame it on mass hysteria or mass hallucination. For example, the field of optical science. Granted the field of optical science is way beyond the scope of what most of us have studied, but I assure you the answers most likely lie therein.

I think the flecks shown in the photo are similar in nature but there's no way my eyes would be able to focus that close to the text without a magnifying glass. I would definitely be able to live with the flecks in the close up photos on this thread.

My problem is that I have a number of prominent flecks (probably clusters of stuck pixels) that are visible from normal reading distance and located on the screen in those places in between lines of text on my usual font settings. These flecks keep drawing my eye and distracting from the reading experience.

On closer inspection my PW2 has these flecks too but nowhere near the same degree. Weird (and mildly disappointing) that the e-ink screens got worse in that regard when the DPI jumped from 212 to 300.

While the color graduations are not part of the problem mentioned, I do believe that perhaps the pixel jump has contributed to the worsened appearance of some screens. I have tiny, multi-colored pixel clusters (blue, pink, yellow) all over my screen that I can see. I don't have super vision, I am farsighted, and I wear glasses or contacts to read. Whatever the reason, I have to consciously not focus on them, and like the graduation in color, they are very distracting. I do not see them on my PW1 or the PW2 I just bought and am returning.

This sounds like exactly what I see, except that mine are everywhere on my screen.

Mine has those black specks as well and so does xendula's. On mine, you have to look really closely to see them, but they are indeed there and evenly scattered as seen on the pics here. No clue what that's all about. Are they trying to make it look more like paper?

Every eInk screen has tiny black "speckles" on it (but you'll probably have to look very closely to see them). They are little clusters of eInk "cells" that haven't turned white (or black). It's inherent in the technology and is not a fault. Look closely at your PW2, and I absolutely guarantee that you'll see them there, too.

I do know what you mean, but it looks very different on the voyage. More pronounced. It's hard for me to really see anything on my PW2. I'm not saying it's not there, I just don't really see it. The voyage has like little flecks all over it. It's best seen in the pics in this thread. I'm not saying it's a defect either, I really didn't know what to make of it.

Very interesting. Cruff do you also have an Aura H2O? I'd love to see some up close comparison shots. I'd do it myself but I don't have a macro lens.

I'm not a skilled photographer but I do not see black spots that prevalent on my Kobo H2O. They are there only if you look really really hard. I'd guess they are about 10x smaller than those shown in the photo in Post #25.

Ha! You remember! I think it was a PW2. The PW2 I ended up keeping is kind of yellow as well, but I picked it because at least it was mostly the same hue across the entire screen.

Fingers crossed for both of us!!
