They've always included the button covers when they print the decals, so if someone preferred not to have those areas exposed they could cover them.

Actually, that my be a good solution for the "can't feel the buttons" issue. I was thinking of putting a sticker over them, but maybe I'll get a skin and just leave the buttons exposed. So...instead of a bump for the buttons, it will be a little depression.

I'm hoping the buttons will work covered, I'm not sure I'd like the look of the skin if it's interrupted, but I could see how having a depression would work well for finding the buttons quickly in the dark. Hopefully they'll be skins with and without covered buttons so everyone is happy.

The buttons are pressure sensitive so they should work covered or not. They are basically covered by glass now, so a bit of sticky paper shouldn't hinder their function. If it were me, I would not want a cut out in the skin as it is not needed. Instead I would want a printed button on the skin so I could find them. But I don't use skins.

I have a skin I just removed from my PW1 (PW1 is now going to my husband). I put it over one side of the Voyage screen, covering the buttons. They still work. I can't feel any difference in the pressure needed for the skinned side versus the bare side.

I'm keeping mine on order, may pick one up at Best Buy this weekend and cancel the order, and pray the screen is good. What I really want is a 6.8 cm screen, buttons, and the amazon ecosystem. The Boyue and the Onyx offer most or all those features. Not sure if the Boyue is 6.8''. I think both will run the Android app. One is the same price as the Voyage and the other is cheaper. But they are not for everyone. They offer a lot more functionality so you have to what you are doing. And even though they run the Amazon app, obviously the buying experience cannot be a seamless as on a Kindle. But it'll work. I do know of one die-hard Kindle fan who has been seduced by the Onyx.

I did wonder at what was Amazon's reasoning for using touchpads instead of traditional buttons. It seemed risky. Are they utterly flush with bezel, so the front face is totally smooth? I suppose that must be very swish. But it might make them hard to locate. If everything is flush, does pressing the buttons feel like touching the screen, or do you actually squeeze? It sounds quite odd without having tried it.

The buttons, or whatever you want to call them, are located below the glass front. So there is absolutely no way to feel them, you only feel smooth, flat glass. You can adjust the pressure required to activate them via a menu, and you activate them by pressing on the glass or squeezing the glass. There is no physical feedback as to whether you activated the buttons, however you can use the menu to set a vibration to occur to have some feedback. There are multiple feedback levels of vibration, but none are that obvious to me when I use them.

I have the opposite problem, sometimes I have to page forward.

Instead of the forward button, my thumb goes too far on the right and triggers the back page area of the screen.

And like other readers here I need the buttons reversed, forward is too low.
Maybe when I get a permanent cover it will become easier, I am using one of my extra cases, a Marware leather flip.

Can Kindles still rotate the text 180 degrees? That would do the trick.

Not as far as I can tell. You have a choice between Portrait and Landscape, but no 180 degree option on the Voyage.

Sigh... The KDX can, but that gets old fast with that big, heavy keyboard on top.

Thanks for the info, even if it's bad news. And at least it can be fixed with an update if they ever come to their senses. (I guess they would have to rethink that huge Kindle logo as well.)

The largest bezel side is on the bottom, so for Landscape mode on the Voyage the bottom bezel becomes the left side bezel. I'm left handed so it works out well for me, but most people will probably want that 180 degree option if they use Landscape mode because they will want their dominant thumb to be on the widest bezel. Also, as I noted above, the PT buttons don't turn pages in Landscape mode, which is bizarre!

If you're talking about me, Rizla, I don't use the Kindle App on my T68 - it doesn't work at all well. I convert my books to ePub and use the Moon+ Pro App.

I'm curious--why convert to epub? Moon + handles .mobi just fine.
