A Family Christian Bookstore chain was the only Kobo seller within 20 miles of my house. It doesn't have any Kobo Readers now. With the purchase from Family Christian Bookstore came some free bible downloads.

One of the staged firmware downloads had a bad bug for readers bought in Australia. This stopped the downloads until new version was available.

From what I can tell, the following releases has problems and had to be stopped and re-released:
  • 1.9.17
  • 2.0.0 (3 versions in total)
  • 2.1.4
  • 2.2.0
  • 2.6.1
  • 3.0.0
  • 3.1.0

The problem in Australia was that firmware later than 2.0.0 could not be installed on the a large batch of the Touches sold here in 2011. Kobo released 2.0.4 that only went to those devices. After that, they could be upgraded. My Touch was one of the afflicted, and I remember digging out info for Kobo and then testing the upgrade.

Okay ... one thing I don't like about the Glo is how easily it takes fingerprints and how (seemingly) hard it is to clean them off. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to clean a Kobo Glo? Would it be able to stand a very light dose of a soapy towel?

This problem will mostly go away once my case (on order) arrives.

Fingerprints on the bezel, or on the screen?

I clean my devices with microfiber cloths. If necessary I dampen the cloth a little, with plain water. No soap!

For some odd reason those fingerprints will lessen over time to where you don't leave any at all on the bezel. It's like it finally absorbs all it can off your fingers and then the bezel is nicely uniform in appearance. The fingerprints annoyed me at first too and I kept trying to wipe them away using only my fingers to at least even them out and never cleaned them with any cloth, so maybe that hastened the process. But it didn't take long at all for them to just disappear.

No, on the bezel and on the back -- wherever there's "rubbery" plastic. I have microfiber cloths for the screen. But I haven't noticed fingerprints on the screen at all. But I can understand not using soap -- it's a pretty sure bet that it would end up on the screen if used to clean the bezel.

That's really odd, but looking forward to it. I probably shouldn't be so persnickety but I can't seem to help myself.

I don't think you're being too picky at all, like I said, fingerprints and smudges drive me nuts also. The cases I use are shell-types where the reader snaps in so the front bezel is fully exposed. If it didn't go away, I would have found some skin to place over the front bezel at least, like from DecalGirl or SkinIt, the fingerprints bothered me that much.

I use screen cleaning wipes. They come in 2 x 100 sachet boxes from Costco.
