There's not a whole lot they can say publicly that wouldn't sound false. Ignoring for a moment that the existent fervent anti-Amazon sentiment has already been based on theoretical future actions, what-ifs, and misunderstandings; even less evidence remains to wield against Amazon when the situation isn't as bleak as Hachette has lead us to believe. It's impossible to know if Hachette has been behind the opinions pieces and author interviews, but if they felt that they were making ground in a PR war, S&S just pulled out the rug from under their feet.

But then I'm also starting to wonder, even without this change in the dynamics, how long will people still care? If Hachette authors are struggling without Amazon as much as they say they are, that's somewhat indicative of a market that doesn't react much to these sorts of spats. I'm not sure what Hachette has left.

I wonder if the NYT and Krugman will apologize to Amazon?

Apologize for what? How is this event related to the argument in the article?

Ten feet out of bounds.
Followed by a flung racket and a tantrum at the line judge.
