Yes, The "Amulet of Samarkand" is pretty good!
Now .. I wanted to recommend another book - but I forgot which one .. damn lack of sleep. |

![]() I keep meaning to post a copy of my paper somewhere and ask for comments. Maybe later today. It's basically about promoting reading and reading communities with software like DotReader. (And the DotReader website seems to be back up again, so I guess they're not dead after all....) |

My invitation was tongue-in-cheek. I'm flying to LGA, driving to CT, working 3 days, flying out Saturday.

Oh HELL YES!!! I remember walking into both Barnes & Noble and Borders years ago and asking them why I was unable to purchase ebooks at their stores. I would think they would have at least one terminal somewhere in the store that was specifically dedicated to that. If not why the hell not?? I love to shop in bookstores .... I like just walking around and looking at the physical books. I like the way bookstores smell, for pete's sake. I would like to be able to shop at book stores, but since I try whenever possible to purchase ebooks only now (which has more to do with scraping cat puke of the pages or finding pages my furry children have torn out and hidden under the couch, and scraping the cat puke off of those), I don't spend much money in those stores of late. I haven't since I got my first Rocket E Book. |

![]() Yeah, I've had cats shred books, too, sharpening claws, I guess (or just generally making mischief). My brother gave me a paperback for Christmas this past year to replace a collection of short stories the cats destroyed 20 years ago. It was used, of course, and he wasn't happy with the condition it was in, but when I explained to him the condition of my other copy (which I still have for the 2/3 of the pages that are still readable) he decided it had been an ok gift after all. ![]() |
