It's the first week in June and my pool is still too cold to swim in.

It's frikkin' 89 degrees in Birmingham again today, just like yesterday, and the day before, and so on. The warm pool water is sort of flat and stale. Forecasted to be hot and humid again tomorrow, and the next day, and so on. Serious, down here in this sort of weather, the squirrels lay flat out on branches and just try to stay cool. Honest! We used to have a pecan tree outside the living room window, and the squirrels would spend weeks stripping it. But on hot airless days like these, they just laid out there panting. No lie!

The ocean is fine though (21C). The spa's just terrific. The apparent air temperature's about 25C. ~sigh~ This is how I like to spend winter. Cheers, Marc |

if your winter weather turns out to be nicer than our "summer" (or so they claim) weather i may cry. so, so depressing, to have these leaden skies and frequent downpours, in JUNE (arg !!!)... then again, no-one ever came to Paris for the sun.

This had us go from a broad-ish beach like this: to, at high tide, this: So, it looks like they'll be pumping sand again. They'd only just got all the rocks covered and a nice, broad, gently-sloping beach back about two weeks ago. Cheers, Marc |

holy cow, do you mean from *erosion* in *one* day* ??
nonetheless, i just don't even want to hear about it. you don't see anybody surfing in the Seine, even when it's not raining, and it's supposed to be summer here. |

Yes, as at Christmas when it happened a few times, we had a low pressure system sit off the coast and drag a trough down from the northern tropics, also piling seas in from the east. If it comes from the right direction, as it did, then big seas can wipe the beaches, leaving nothing but waves crashing into dunes at high tide (or, in the case of Noosa Main Beach, the reinforcement of the rock wall). The high tides also cause the rivers to back up and flood streets near the estuaries and rivermouths (aside from the natural overflow from heavy rain in the creeks, cutting roads inland).

note to self : do not move to scotland. although the accent is thrilling, apparently the weather is even more abominable than here, where at least we know the true meaning of "heat wave" (30°, until the HEAT WAVE of a few years ago, which raised the bar significantly, not that we've have the occasion since then to measure anything).
