Bargain @ 99 cents for US-only from the "HarperCollins e-books" imprint:
There's a whole slew of historical fiction (and assorted period-set litfic), including a lot of westerns. You can probably try getting them at the OmniLit 50% rebate Hallowe'en sale mentioned in GeoffR's alert thread and also be eligible for the Buy 10 Get 1 Free deal, or they're cheap enough that you can go to your favourite US store for them. Here's the Kobo auto-search for the imprint, sorted by price and filtered by category so you can scroll through and spot if there's anything which looks interesting to you. Also, some more specific category filtering for Historical and Western, though occasionally things get misfiled. Last edited by ATDrake; 11-01-2014 at 12:50 AM. Reason: Oops, posted for non-fiction in the wrong thread. But they do have historicals on sale as well. |

Bargain @ 99 cents for today only (Nov 6th) according to the newsletter from Open Road Media (couponable @ Kobo, should be available in all the standard stores, price good for Canada & US, perhaps other regions as well, etc.):
The Firedrake by Cecelia Holland (ISFDB, Wikipedia), her debut historical fiction novel set in 11th century England, involving an Irish mercenary who joins the Norman invasion and winds up at the Battle of Hastings, originally out in 1966. I haven't read this particular one, but I've enjoyed others of Holland's works that I've tried in the past, enough to make her an auto-buy for me when the prices get low enough, so I snapped this one up and am going to set price-drop alerts on the rest of her stuff in case ORM discounts more of her backlist. In The Firedrake, an Irish mercenary knight in the eleventh century, in a constant personal battle with the rest of the world, joins William of Normandy for the invasion of England. There at Hastings he has to choose between power and wealth, and his personal demons of pride and honor. The New York Times called Cecelia Holland “a literary phenomenon” in its review of this book, recognizing a stellar creative achievement by a young writer in her first published work. |

Bargain @ 99 cents for today only (Nov 18th) according to the newsletter from Open Road Media (couponable @ Kobo, should be available in all the usual stores, price good for Canada & US, possibly other regions as well):
Ruler of the Sky: A Novel of Genghis Khan by Nebula Award-winning feminist science fiction author Pamela Sargent (ISFDB, Wikipedia), her non-sfnal regular historical novel about Exactly What It Says In The Title, originally out from Crown Publishers in 1993. I either bought this via Fictionwise a long time ago, or it was on my wishlist and I never got around to buying it before they shut down. If the latter turns out to be the case, I'm definitely snapping this one up. In 1167, in the harsh homeland of Mongol tribes, a child was born who was to change the course of human history. His father named him Temujin, but the world knows him as Genghis Khan. Set amid the barbaric splendor of the Mongol hordes, RULER OF THE SKY tells the tale of the warrior who forged one of the greatest and most terrifying armies the world had ever seen, and conquered the world from Peking to Persia. Not only is this the story of Genghis Khan, it is also the story of those who were closest to him, especially the women who played such an important role in his life. From the windswept plains of Mongolia to the opulence of the Chinese court, RULER OF THE SKY is unforgettable. |

Free from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon:

This is a newly-written 3rd installment in a series that began with K Company, the 1st which was originally paperbacked by Fawcett in 1992. Link Hayward ( "K Company," "Conroy's First Command") is a mean SOB, who's been busted in rank more times than he can count. He's also the guy you want next to you when things go bad. While carrying dispatches, Link meets Prudence Wainwright, a pious Eastern woman whose husband has been murdered and whose daughter has been kidnapped by a gang of renegade Jayhawkers. Teaming up reluctantly, Link and Prudence must cross hundreds of miles of hostile territory and recapture Hope before her kidnappers sell her to the Comancheros and she is lost to them forever. |

Bargain @ $2.99 for Canadians in the Kobo store as the Deal of the Day (Nov 23rd, should be good until 9 PM Pacific Time, when their servers switch over) from Doubleday Canada:
The Tudor Inheritance: A Novel of Tudor Rivals and the Secret of the Tower from popular historian-turned-novelist Alison Weir (Wikipedia), about Exactly What It Says In The Title. This is "on sale" for $4.99 from Google Play, so it looks like Kobo may have discounted it by another $2 just for today (seems to be matched at iTunes & Amazon Canada, though; the trick will be to see if it goes up later tonight), as they sometimes do for their Daily Deal (in my previous experience with these, the price will go back up immediately once the "day" is over). Also in my experience, Kobo's price listings start to fluctuate at 8 PM Pacific Time, but between then and 9 PM, you can still get a book at the sale price, even if when adding to cart you see the higher price, as long as it says the lower price you expect it to in the actual checkout confirmation page before you pay (take screenshots just in case, though). England's Tower of London was the terrifying last stop for generations of English political prisoners. A Dangerous Inheritance weaves together the lives and fates of four of its youngest and most blameless: Lady Katherine Grey, Lady Jane's younger sister; Kate Plantagenet, an English princess who lived nearly a century before her; and Edward and Richard, the boy princes imprisoned by their ruthless uncle, Richard III, never to be heard from again. Across the years, these four young royals shared the same small rooms in their dark prison, as all four shared the unfortunate role of being perceived as threats to the reigning monarch. Weaving together their lives and fates into a dark mystery of thwarted love and ruthless ambition, Alison Weir has written the most suspenseful, large-scale novel of her career. Last edited by ATDrake; 11-23-2014 at 08:52 PM. Reason: Surprisingly matched at iTunes, which normally doesn't, so this may be a "regular" sale price that Google is behind with. |

Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freeman Quote:
-This was offered free about a year ago, which is when I picked it up. This is an old favorite and I highly recommend it. (You will possibly need tissues handy.) --Including it in the historical fiction because while it is based on a true story, much like Laura Ingalls Wilder, James Herriot, and Scott O'Dell, there's a lot of embellishment so it's not exactly non-fiction.
