Sony says the battery is on back order for something like $80 which timing and cost are not palatable...at least not to me.

I'm still looking for a battery from other source(s).
For just $100 more, I can get a Kobo H2O that has a newer ADE, bigger screen, newer screen and, higher resolution.

It's silly to charge so much for a battery. But then I suppose, it's the only game in town for the battery as I've not been able to find one that would fit.

If I was still using my 650, I would have bought a replacement battery as the battery definitely shows signs of age.

This is why the age of throw away electronics is not good. We get a perfectly good electronic device that has to be scrapped because we cannot get something as simple as a battery. If Sony had kept the user replaceable battery that the 900 had, I'd have bought a 950 instead of a 650.

However, what I would do is give Sony a call and see what they are prepared to do about the 950's aging battery. Maybe they can do a swap with a refurbished unit for less then the online cost of the battery alone.

J, For whatever reason, this approach had not occurred to me.

While the battery in one of my 950s is, as you say, "showing its age", it is still serviceable...plus, I really like this 950 with its pasted on cover. This pasted on cover has already been removed and reinstalled once; thus, I don't think it would survive another removal.

When the battery on this 950 is no longer serviceable, then I'll decide whether to do as you say or otherwise just stick with my backup 950.

Found this listing today on Ebay, unlike the other batteries that are supposedly for a 950 but look to be for a 900 -this one is labelled 950SL
