So mine was double bad luck since I also had wifi problems. I'm trying to decide if I should try again because if wifi and bootloop weren't happening it was a great reader. I was willing to put up with a bootloop at 30%, but when it grew to 50% that was too much. It also had wifi shut itself off using wifi in three different places.

I wonder what Amazon's return rules are for this. I don't want to be labeled as someone who returns too much. I also wonder if the problems are more with Booxter's or Amazon's version. Maybe I'll have to figure out how to do a survey.

FWIW, mine is absolutely fine. No boot loops, no WiFi problems. The WiFi does turn off when I put it to sleep, but that's normal, I believe.

No, I bought mine from onyx-boox.com, but it is the Artatech model, the same as Amazon sell.

If this helps...
Booxtor model. Playing with it for three weeks. No loops at all. No problem with the battery. Last two times I charged it, it was at 14%. The moment the pop-up warns you to charge it. No problems with Wi-Fi. Except when it goes to sleep mode, I had to turn it off myself. So, in my case it stays on when reading. I've been reading the last year in a KPW 2 and Kobo Aura HD. The battery lasts a little less than in those two eReaders, so to me nothing out of the norm if you take on acount that T68 runs Android. The only thing that I'm not happy with is the buggy screen touch. When this is solved it'll become my favourite reader of all. In my case I've noticed that not all the apps respond the same to the touch. Coolreder (not the Onyx version) and Kindle app respond to soft touch. Most of the times Onyx apps (OReader and the other two) need a harder touch. Similar to the differences I've notice between PW2 and Aura HD... ![]() Last edited by PremaEbooks; 08-10-2014 at 12:19 PM. |

I have experienced the boot loop issue with a variety of battery levels. A work around that appears to work for me is to press the power button "for a few seconds" until the unit stops rebooting. I then plug in ANY recharger and leave it alone for a "while". Rebooting the unit then resolves the boot loop issue. To me, the issue appears to be firmware related versus a hardware problem.

I played with mine today, testing.
As a reminder: first day I had it it just froze at around 45% battery and it had to stay charging for a couple of hours until it came back to life. Today I had it: - maximum backlight - wifi on - bluetooth on - running a ping continuously so there is some activity and also the wifi doesn't turn off It discharged from 60% to 8% without an issue. I don't know what to believe... probably I'm going to run more tests until I have a better idea. The rate of discharge was ~15% per hour. I'm not sure if that's a lot or not. My feeling is that it loses power more rapidly than my NSTG. Another observation is that the discharge (or the reporting of it) is not linear. There are sometimes jumps of up to 5% ! That makes analysis a little bit harder. From the symptoms that I had the first time I would have said that there is an issue with the battery where, at certain levels, it cannot power the screen sufficiently. Now I'm not so sure. I am hoping it's a firmware issue (so that it can actually be fixed). |

The boot loop problem that I can work around is the ArtaTech revision. I had the boot loop problem again last night and held the power button until the unit completely shut off and then plugged in the power to recharge. Problem went away. My guess is the problem will be in both variants of the reader as they will more than likely using a common baseline for the kernel and drivers.

More (battery) feedback:
I have charged the reader 100%. I read 2 hours backlight on using the minimum setting. Wifi and bluetooth are off (also turned off the "Mobile network data" in the Settings, just so it doens't appear in Battery info). After that battery is shown at 99%. Great! I think. I put the reader in standby (not turned off). However after 8 hours this morning: 75%. And, as I was looking at it, it goes rapidly in a minute or two to 70% !! I start looking at battery info in Settings, turn of Wifi, install a Task Manager, prod a bit. In half an hour: 65% ! The attached battery graph shows how the rate of discharge is very small for like 4 hours (I estimate) and then it increases and stays like that. The Battery info only shows: - Screen 65% - Cell standby 32% - Device idle 3% That in itself is a bit strange as the OnyxReader is not in there although I read for a couple of hours. So I'm not sure how much I can trust it. But if it's true then it means it was not a process that started during the night and ate the battery ... Is anybody else experiencing poor battery performance ? maybe associated with the reboot/freeze issues or not ? |

Actually, if you take a look at the battery graph in my previous post, and if I read it correctly, it says that the reader and screen were NOT on while I was actually using it (reading), but afterwards is on continuously ?!
I think I'm reading it correctly, because you can see towards the end of the bars how it shows the awake/screen on being intermitently off again once I started using it in the morning again. It shows how I turned on wifi and how it was not charging at all during this time. More testing is necessary to understand this ... |

On a Nook ST, I installed an app that forces the device to go into deep sleep to stop partial and full wake locks (think that's the term). The big problem on the Nook was that the cell phone part of the OS was trying to call all the time. I wouldn't think that would be the problem here, but again, you can install apps that breakdown battery usages by process and also show wake locks. But that shouldn't be necessary on the Onyx, but it's fun to do anyway. Tweek away! |

I moved phone.apk and telephony.apk out of the system/app folder and the battery graph no longer shows the cell standby battery usage. This has apparently helped on other tablets to reduce battery consumption. Will let everyone know if I see a difference in battery life.
