Don't buy the deluxe edition - it's not worth the extra. Buy the standard Gen3 + the cover (which is essential). The extra stuff - the SD and and the USB charger - you can buy more cheaply elsewhere, and the spare battery is (IMHO) completely unnecessary.

I second HarryT advice, it's also exactly what I bought: the Cybook and the cover.

Good shopping,

That's it! I'm going to buy the Cybook Gen3. According to Bookeen's site, the reseller that is near me is the spanish Apollo XXI (I'm from Portugal, Europe).

I'll wait a few more hours, maybe until tomorrow, as I would like to know if anyone here bought from this reseller (or has any info about it). And I've noticed one of the members that replied in this topic is portuguese. Where did you order your eReader?

Right now, the Cybook + Cover + Shipping & Handling = ~405€
I guess since Spain is right next to Portugal, it will be cheaper and faster. But that might not be the case. Is there any other place where I can a better deal, including S&H?

Hi Over - from where are you in Portugal?

I have bought directly from Bookeen and payed exactly the amount you say.
Spanish guys are very happy with the Apolo XXI shop, if you can find some experiences from them take a look in the eBook's sub-forum of the "todo UMPC" one, in: http://www.todoumpc.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=43

Around here we have at least another Portuguese who is also a project Gutemberg fan and colaborator.

He has a Blog, "ler Digital", with reviews in Portuguese about eBook readers - the one about the Cybook is unvaluable:
http://www.ler-digital.blogspot.com

If you live near Lisbon and want to see the Cybook I would be very pleased to show you mine.

Best regards,

It depends on the PDF files. If they are mainly text files, formatted for the Cybook screen, the reader is quite fine and does its work with few problems. For instance, the PDFs I have uploaded in these forums are very readable (to me, at least), and there are even illustrated versions.

Hi, DDHarriman. Thank for the links, I'm checking them out.

I'm from Cascais, glad to know there are other portuguese ereaders around here

The reason I've chosen Apollo XXi was that they have the Cybook available for shipment in two days, while Bookeen's site mention 12 days! Besides that, Apollo offers a library with 300 books! (As a matter of fact, they are charging the library and offering the Cybook )

Think that they are being a bit generous with their time at bookeen.

I ordered my Cybook this monday, and in the E-mail conversation I carried out with them (Just wanted to clarify a few things), they said that the Item should ship this week.

And as they FedEx it, In Europe that should just take a Day or two.

Still, will keep everyone posted on when It does actually ship, so we get get some idea of how much is the 12 day figure is actual and CYA time. :Grin2:

Update:

Well they did take 5 working days to finally ship it. Ordered it last Monday 26/5/08 and they shipped it yesterday, 2/6/08. Should have it some time today.

Aaargh! I'm strugling with last minute indecision. I was just about to order Cybook, but Hanlin V3 R2 and BeBook got in the way. I really need your opinion about these two machines, before deciding for anyone of the three. BeBook doesn't support Mobi for now, that's a minus. Hanlin V3 R2 seems the same, but it's a lot cheaper.

Right now I'm still inclined for Cybook, but recent news (Feedbook's ereader, Hanlin V3 R2 (which I got to know just today), the BeBook, etc...).

I know that in technology, everything gets outdated faster than we would like, but I'm really afraid about buying the Cybook and find out a much better deal just a couple months later...

Anyone has a BeBook or the Hanlin V3 R2? How's PDF support?

Especially as fast as things are moving now, and all the new devices that are coming out! All you can do is try to make the best choice for yourself at the time. Likely you'll be happy with it, even if something "better" comes along.

One thing I noticed when buying a cell phone is that I get carried away about its features (bluetooth, java, games, memory, camera megapixels, etc...) but, in the end, I just use it to talk and messages... It's been months since I've used its mp3 player, months since I've played a game in it, weeks since the last time I took a picture with it.

So... I should have learned by now that I should be more realistic when choosing a gadget. Not to let myself get carried away about getting more features, when in the end I won't even use them.

Not seen in the flesh, I've got the Bookeen one and it's grown on me. When I'm reading I only notice the inside and it's a better colour than the outside...

Apparently it's converting very well the eBooks I've tried to convert, but I have no idea if it's changing the size of the pages or anything, as I only have the pc software to test it. But at least I didn't notice any serious formating errors. Didn't try PDF with charts or big graphics, but I don't really need to carry them with me, as the Cybook wouid be for personal use, mainly entertainment.

I've also tried my proposed idea: using the mobipocket creator to compile the images of a single manga chapter into a *.prc file. I have no idea if the pages were resized or downgraded, but I would like to leave here the file for anyone of you with a Cybook. It would be great if anyone could check it out in his/her Cybook and tell the results (photos would be welcome too).

I'm gonna try now to use the Manga2Ebook software with the same manga chapter. I'll post it here too.

For now, here's the manga chapter (it's on rapidshare, as a direct download): http://rapidshare.com/files/117458916/Manga.prc (1417 KB)

(I'm assuming that posting a sample chapter isn't illegal. Besides, that manga isn't even comercialized outside Japan.)

Edit: Ok, here we go. I've used the Manga2Ebook software and generated 3 files.

This file, I've used M2E to change the image files (resizing, adding a little bit contrast and antialiasing) and convert to PDF:

http://rapidshare.com/files/117465326/Manga_M2E-PDF.pdf (direct download) (5578 KB)

In this file, I've used the M2E's generated PDF and converted it to PRC using Mobipocket's creator:

http://rapidshare.com/files/11746551...2E-PDF-PRC.prc (direct download) (1445 KB)

Finally, in this file, I've used M2E just to process the images, without converting them to PDF. Then I've grabbed those image files and compiled them in Mobipocket's Creator:

http://rapidshare.com/files/117465750/Manga_M2E-PRC.prc (direct download) (1462 KB)

Now... It would be reeealy nice if someone could check these out in his/her Cybook
Has anyone been reading comics/manga in their Cybook? And using any of the methods above? I'm curious to know your experiences.
