Yep. I think by the time these things are become attractive for widespread deployment as text book readers, touchscreen functionality like that will be pretty standard. Readers as they are today aren't quite there yet, but technology will mature.

You can annotate text on the Kindle too. I think the concern is you can't actually see the annotations on the same screen as the text.

I can see ebook readers replacing textbooks once you can annotate directly on the page and be able to save the annotations for future use. The Iliad wouldn't be too bad but personally I'd like a larger screen. I was an engineering student and I *hated* carrying around all those heavy books. Actually suffered a partial shoulder separation because of the weight of my backpack for M,W,F classes my junior year.
