If you can find one for $100 and it's the later DXG I would say go for it. The reason I say the later DXG is for no other reason than to avoid one thats going on 4 years old. Not to say some of the DXGs are not getting up there in years but you might get lucky.
The only reason I replaced my K2 was it was getting flaky. Moe than likely a battery issue but to expected due to its age.

There seems to be some hate regarding the DX on the forums as....
it's heavy ( yes it's heavier)
and slower (compared to my K2 I would say no)
the screen isn't as clear. ( my K2 was fine and it's the same screen)
The technology is dated. ( it's an ereader not a tablet)
The battery doesn't last as long. ( 2+ weeks is more than enough for me)

I looked for a used one first but on average the price was in the $130-150 range plus shipping and to me they weren't worth that when a new one was $199. So it was easy to justify the difference and i wanted the features the DXG offered. Mainly the speakers, keyboard and page turn buttons.

IMHO if you want the large screen find a nice used or refurb unit from amazon and enjoy a perfectly fine device with to me the only real drawback being its weight. Yes the tech is a few years old but it's not a tablet that's required to run newer and newer software that may or may not work anymore but an ereader that just needs to display books and an occasional PDF.

As dr drib mentioned earlier, dxg =

'Kindle DX (Free 3G) Graphite
Your serial number starts with "B009"'

This was the latest model. It has a Pearl display which has better contrast than the earlier dx (and K2 btw). The K3 Keyboard also has a Pearl display.

To read more about the history of the Kindle DX have a look at this;

Yes, if you have 1,2, and 3 then go for it. If you don't, then I might....

ADDED: You enjoy reading at home.

The DX-G is not something I take with me when I go out.

It would depend upon your reading habits, if you need a booklight.

I read on my DX-G when there is sufficient light in the house or if I decide to read outside on the terrace.

For night reading, I go to bed with my Kobo Aura HD (or sometimes with my Kobo Glo or Kindle Paperwhite 2).

When I'm out and about (and there is sufficient light), then I take my Kobo Mini.

I have 2x K4 basics (one grey case, one black case). My DXG has better contrast and it's background looks whiter to me.

I read my dxg for ~ 1 hour just about every night and use a 6-led flexible clip-on book light. This is the one I have;

http://www.dicksmith.com.au/ereaders...ght-dsau-s4182

I'm sure that there are other similar book lights out there. Multi leds give nice even light coverage.

Hey, Dr. Drib, you tried editing your post I guess and accidentally reposted the edit entirely.

The DXG is a Kindle 2 with a large screen and, as such, is restricted to the K2's firmware features. This most notably means that it doesn't - and never will - support the KF8 file format, which is much more capable than the older Mobi format.

The Kindle DXG. with a Pearl screen (like the K3 keyboard), has much better contrast and a whiter background than the K2. If you have both, the diff is pretty obvious. The original DX has the same K2 screen technology (visiplex, I think?).

No KF8 file capability but most standard E-book readers will not notice the diff (I don't). Still, something that Amazon should have added/updated to the dxg firmware by now imho. I was told a few months ago that Kindle tech services was looking into this but so far nothing has come to pass.

True, but I was referring to its firmware rather than its hardware. The DX runs the K2's 2.x firmware.
