It degrades the text? So it would be better to get a kindle touch or DX which does not have the text degrading and instead by some sort of lighting gear to read in the dark? What kind of lighting gear do you recommend?

Thank you. How good is the 3G. Is the 3G faster on the paperwhite compared to the 3G in previous versions of Kindle?

I don't find the lit screen to degrade the text at all. I suspect this is very subjective, but my PW2 has the best resolution of any ereader I've owned.

It does have some of the best resolution, but the extra stuff on top of the screen itself is noticeable, at least for me.

I think you will find that 3G (not wifi) speeds will all be the same for all 3G kindles. The speed is limited to 3G itself (not real fast anyway) and it's reception strength in your area.

I can't speak for the Paperwhite (not yet, I'm thinking of buying one) but I did pick up a cheap Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight at a pawnshop (as a backup), and there's definitely some loss of quality in the text when comparing it with my NST (when the light is out). It's something I can live with at night (because the light is nice), but I'll probably be using the NST for most of my Nook day time reading. I honestly didn't expect the difference. But, to be honest, I probably wouldn't have noticed much if I didn't have the NST to compare it to.

In good natural light, you're absolutely right, the light diffuser causes a very slight "fuzziness" compared to a non-illuminated reader. Personally, however, I do most of my reading in the evenings, in artificial light, and in those conditions there's a massive "win" from having the frontlight. |

I find the PW 2013 clearer than the PW 2012 but both are far clearer than printed pages IMHO.
