Lots of great advice and perspective in this thread.

I have owned a Nook Color since 2011 and an iPad 2 since 2012. I thought having both of these gadgets would exponentially increase my leisure reading, but neither did. I was disappointed not to be able to easily read in the sunlight or outside with the NC and found myself much too distracted by other apps and the Inter-webs to read on my iPad. I did read slightly more, though still not a lot, on the iPad due to my local library using Overdrive.

Over this last summer I was gifted a friend's older Kindle keyboard. I didn't bother with it for about three months since I had my iPad, but once I finally gave it a try I fell in love. For me the e-ink is not only easier on the eyes, I am wowed by the battery life and Amazons ebook pricing over Barnes and Noble. Having a more extensive Nook library, I used calibre to strip the DRM from my purchased Nook epubs, easily converted them to mobi and put them on my Kindle. I imagine you could do the same for any Kobo purchases. I was never impressed with the Nook Color and compared it and my iPad to the e-ink devices without even knowing what they were really about. I only parted with the Kindle Keyboard because I couldn't find a lighted case or lighted solution that worked well. I'm glad I made the switch.

I agree with everything else you said, but since the Aura and Aura HD run the same firmware (albeit with some extra functionality with the Aura) I think you're wrong on this.
