Weird that Kindle 5.4.4 and 5.4.3 firmware are both in the same folders while they are for different machines. I have both machines and it's a little bit of confusing.

I'm loving this update. They did a great job on every aspect of it.

Finally Collections don't cause clutter (with the new Collections view).

Search Items is more efficient (search results show as you type, etc.)

Notes and Bookmarks are much more logically presented and usable.

Can now change initial text selection by dragging 'handles'.

Popup footnotes and Page Flip are great.

However, they have broken dictionary 'cascade'. It used to search all dictionaries, now it only checks default for the language in question. You can select another dictionary 'manually' but that is not as convenient.

Thank you for telling us. I won't update because of this. I use the Eng-Chi dictionary a lot but sometimes it doesn't have a word. The system will search for it in the Oxford dictionary and find me the definition. If this breaks, it will be very troublesome.

That would defeat the whole purpose, which is to preview a page before jumping there. They could maybe make the preview window a little bigger, but 100% is not feasible.

In any case, I use size 1-2 and have no problem with having it be a couple of sizes smaller (again, for preview purposes).

That's a good use case for them to digest. I hope you'll send this to kindle-feedback. I'll be doing that myself and will include this one as well as some others.

The preview window is fine. The text in it should be larger.

Also, using a full screen page flip would be no different than it is now, IMHO.

Actually I updated. I worked out what I needed to do to get my embedded font and it's all worked out fine. I like the new features particularly page flip and the updates to Notes. I can live with cloud Collections now we have stared Collections and I side load AZW3s with the embedded font rather than use Send to Kindle and the Amazon Cloud. I rarely buy books from Amazon so it's all good.

I figured as I'm likely to buy a future Kindle it's best to work out how to live with the new features than hide from them.

In my case, it's easy.

I don't use any of the Kindle features, except the ones pertaining to reading the books. (Fonts, TimeToRead, the home screen, obviously.) All of the extra stuff is disabled.

Personally, I love how the popup footnotes work even with side loaded books: no more clicking arrows in the menu screen or links in the footnote to jump back. With my Kobo, even though I like reading with that too, popup footnotes only works with KePUB files by default, and not side loaded ePUBs.

I love page flip totally and footnote pop up, but I have a problem with GoTo when choosing first first-level heading. If it consists of second level headings they are not appearing in the GoTo ... This happens only in the first first-level heading. I now have to look how to solve this problem in my AZW3s. Maybe I invent some Prologue text .... I mean, really
