Thanks for the excellent calibre, Kovid. I have sent you my humble contribution via PayPal. You richly deserve it. I am fanatic about reading ebooks on my PRS-505 - however my experience is that books with sample programming code are not ideally suited to the PRS-505. The original PDF formatting is of course excllent, but after the conversion to LRF a lot of the beautiful formatting in tables and figures is lost - something that I am fully prepared to live with.

One more thing - I'm really hung up on look-and-feel. I despise the Times and Courier fonts. They make me want to throw up. I embedded the Trebuchet and Verdana fonts in my books. The results are larger file sizes that take longer to load the first time around, but are easier on my font-obsessed eyes.

My desktop is Ubuntu 8.04 [Hardy Heron] with an AMD quad-core CPU. Thanks to you, I have no need to pay homage to Sony and use their Windoze based software. Linux gives me everything I can possibly need as far as the desktop environment goes. I sincerely appreciate your efforts to make e-book reading a joy on my PRS-505.

See http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/user_m...-images-tables

As for the failing conversion, that happens when the PDF file has the no copy bit set or is DRMed. calibre respects these restrictions in the file.

Glad you find calibre useful.

Pronounced as?

Caliber (like the caliber of a gun)?

Ca-LEE-bray (more of a literary pronunciation?)

Maybe we'll pronounce it ca-LY-brar-ee :-)

This is how I have been saying it "in my head". Since I think he said it was a combination of some word and Libre (LEE-bray).
