(Same logic applies to every other eReader, including the Kindle Paperwhite which has (shudder) a measly 1.5 GB and about a year's worth of books.)

@eschwartz:
they won't listen, Ive given up queriing the need ( & the honesty) of owning billions of books , the crazyness of needing a million of them sideloaded all at once, & the insistence of doing all this on the only popular e-reader that has no SD card support.

& still, Amazon plans to convert these folks to happy cloud storage users

then there was the guy who has 8 books that he reckons take up 1.5Gb between them so how dare I suggest that 1.25Gb was plenty of storage...

takes all sorts

I wonder if there's a paper book equivalent type of person..

Yes, but I feel I said it particularly well. I suppose I just like to hear myself talk.

I remember when I was a kid going on vacation I'd take more books then I could ever read... maybe that's where my problem stems from.

I also remember as a kid rarely going anywhere without a paperback in my back pocket in case I had time to read.

I can sympathise even though I probably only have a couple of hundred books on my Kindle. I remember when my music collection first outgrew the size of my then mp3 player. It was a sad day, I couldn't just sync my entire library and decide on-the-go what I wanted to listen to.

When I was a student back in the pre-digital era I had a walkman and used to spend ages choosing which tapes to take with me. A ten minute round trip to the corner shop would be preceeded by 20 minutes spent choosing the 3 90min tapes to take.

No-one NEEDS to carry 1000 books around, but some people WANT to, just because they can (or could, if the storage was big enough).

Sometimes, I do find it to be funny if people complain about not being able to take their entire library of 4732 books with them. Did you take 4732 paper books along on your commute? No? Then why do you want that many ebooks?

The only reason is: "Because it can be done."

There is a store in Germany that imports them. I don't have the link anymore however... maybe I can find it again.

proably cheaper ( if you can bear to split your books across 2 devices) to buy 2 normal sized Kindles , each with proper customner service ,after sale support etc.

Oh noo - ALL the books have to be on the SAME device or "I only have ONE pocket"

reminds me of that old "why take 2 bottles into the shower" advert

Here you go OP
http://www.tensojapan.com/index_eg.asp

They work with Rakuten too.
Estimation at the bottom of the page says that for a 206g Paperwhite, forwarding fee to USA (I'm guessing you're American) would be 1290 yen, which is around 13$.
If you're not from USA, there is a list of countries they forward to.

Paperwhite 2013 is 100$ on amazon.co.jp, so your total would be 113$. Still cheaper then buying it from amazon.com where it's 139$ without special offers. Japanese paperwhites dont have adds either.
