I seem to recall an professor in med school who was rather insistent that you can't get rabies from a rodent.
It's been a while since college zoology. Are bats rodents? |

I googled on 'Bats rodents' and it seems that they aren't rodents.

However, from Wikipedia on rabies: Any mammal may become infected with the rabies virus and develop symptoms, including humans. Most animals can be infected by the virus and can transmit the disease to humans. Infected bats, monkeys, raccoons, foxes, skunks, cattle, wolves, dogs or cats provide the greatest risk to humans. Rabies may also spread through exposure to infected domestic farm animals, groundhogs, weasels and other wild carnivores. Rodents (mice, squirrels etc) are seldom infected So, while bats are not rodents you can get rabies from them. BOb Last edited by pilotbob; 05-07-2008 at 06:01 PM. |

Myth 5: Bats are rodents. Bats are no more related to rodents than humans are. Evolution studies show that bats are more closely related to primates than to rodents. |
