The Wee Free Men - Terry Pratchett
9 year old female protagonist. Any of the Discworld children's books are entertaining for adults as well IIRC, and the rest are suitable for children again IIRC. Helen |

The Star Ka'at series was pretty good. It had both a boy and a girl main characters and alien "cats". The series did lead to space and other planets and is intended for younger readers. |

I don't know if they are still up but there used to be cd iso files of the baen CD's and the Tezley books were among them. They used to be among the free books in Baen's free library as well I believe.

I completely forgot about those (haven't read them yet). So, Andre Norton goes back on the list, and I have to apologize to @cromag.

![]() Six is probably a little too young (not by much, and they do grow fast!) but there are quite a few Tom Swift stories available here in the Mobileread library. I think I read my first when I was eight. Alan E. Nourse's Star Surgeon is also probably only a year or two away for her. It's in the Public Domain (here in the States) and available at project Gutenberg. Or, you could get the audiobook from Librivox -- she might be ready to listen to it on car trips, etc. Last edited by cromag; 11-23-2013 at 03:10 AM. Reason: Added Star Surgeon |
