I would like it to be 100%, but it isn't possible.

I have an engine fundamentals book that my friend loaned me that I would love to have as an ebook, but I haven't been able to find it. I was also gifted a paperback book for a church group; it is available as an ebook, but I'm not ready to spend the money for it right now. (I just checked, so I could link it, and instead of the $14 it was the last time I looked, it is $2.99, so it looks like I am buying it. Yay for this thread! )

Maybe I should have picked 100%, since most of my paper books are in the *want to read soonest* pile rather than the *actually reading* one.

There are some good commentaries over at Amazon for Kindle readers. One day perhaps people will stop buying paper books altogether but I don't think that time is here yet.

It's over at Amazon as well for the same price.

I had a stroke 5 years ago, so holding and reading actual books is a bit of a challenge for me. I already had an ebook reader (Sony PRS-500) so migrating over to ebooks exclusively was easy to do as I found I could hold the reader easily, AND I could go to a large enough font size to be able to read(the stroke screwed with my eyesight for about a year).

I have since improved to the point where my eyesight is back to what it was pre-stroke, i.e. piss-poor, and I can physically handle books to an extent, so I can read "dead tree" books, but the e-reader (currently NookTablet) and ebooks are just so darned convenient that I've continued to read mostly ebooks. That being said, however, I ordered two hard-back books from Amazon Monday. Naval Science doesn't translate well to ebook form.

My reading's now 100% digital. On the other hand, my husband reads almost 100% paper books, which he gets free at a local book exchange.

I would have voted for 100% ebooks but earlier I bought and read my first paper book in 3 years, as it wasn't available in eBook format and I was fed up of waiting to see if it would become available in digital format.

I voted 100% and that's right as long as I mention, like others, a very few exceptions. I still have to refer to paper books for my quilting, but that's not "reading", that's more studying out a new method or pattern. I don't read them from cover to cover like a novel.

Someone mentioned their bible study not being all digital yet. I still like the idea of my paper bible with the leather cover and all the handwritten notes in it, but the Olive Tree app on my Android tablet and phone have pretty much replaced it for the same reason my PW has replaced paper books. In that app, I can have almost all the bibles and study books and maps I could ever dream of wanting and they are all so easy to carry.

A year or so ago a close friend of my two daughters had a book signing locally. I went with them and bought the pbook and had her sign it. I really planned on reading it. I never got around to it until Amazon had it up free for the Kindle for one day. I dowloaded it and read it right away.

I would only buy paper books if there is no alternative, or if I deem the paper book to be better/more useful, which would be for things like cookbooks, reference books, or stuff like chess/go books.

I've read a larger proportion of paper books this year than last, I think. Partly due to a regrettable second-hand paperback buying spree, and partly because I'm trying to clear away my paper backlog.

Not quite 100% because there are books that are not best on the small screen:
1) Technical with Charts and diagrams or pull-out pages
2) Lots of (color) pictures
3) Not reflowable worth a ding-dong

I think I've bought myself 2-3 paper books this year. I do buy some print comics, but those are usually back issues (preferably from the early 70's) or trade collections. I buy paper for my daughter, mainly because she doesn't have a good reading device at the moment and she likes to take books to school. She's 11 and will read either, but I don't want her taking gadgets to school yet.

I also got her mother into ebooks this year. We moved in June and she's been largely housebound while on a tight budget. Free Kindle books got her thinking, and as she already owned a tablet, she's jumped in head-first.

As for myself, it's no contest. It's just so much easier to read an ebook than a paper book. It's also cheaper for an avid reader because there are so many free and discounted books out there. I can usually find at least half-a-dozen free books a week, and while there's plenty of dross out there, there are enough good books that I never have to worry about running out.

Since I received my first Kindle in 2009 - I have not picked up a real book since. I do like the feel of books however, having thousands of books at my disposable is like being a kid in a candy store. I travel a lot for business and so having a nice collection of reading material on one device is perfect.

All ebooks. I tried a paper book when I lost my first reader on the bus(it was turned in). I did not care for it and read on my laptop instead.

Most of the books I want to read currently were between 5 and 80 years ago. Not saying I haven't read anything more recent, because I have been seduced by the buzz on occasion. But few things make me happier than finding an older book by an author I enjoy that I missed at the time of publication.

A good book is timeless and it doesn't have to be a great thought provoking work of art for me to like it. So generally I am all about the backlist
