That's a valid point. I've been creating, buying, and collecting ebooks for over 25 years now; my ebook library is several 10s of GB in size, and can't sensibly be stored on any eInk device. I have no requirement other than to store a few hundred books on a device, to give me a good choice of current reading matter.

hehehe My family is filled with people I consider to be readers. We read lots and lots of books. Then I compare my family to the folks here and we don't seem to read all that much.
In my bad years, I read under 20 books. In my good years, I read close to 60. Most of my friends think that 20 is impressive and are shocked that someone has time to read 60, never mind the hundreds people read here. So I am guessing that Amazon is counting on people with reading habits closer to mine buying their products then people on this site. Because I have no problem with memory on my Kindles and most of the world would see me as someone who reads a lot. |

All of my ebooks can be read on any device because I remove the DRM (if it exists) and convert to whatever device I want. Most of my stuff is sideloaded through Calibre, so I have no need to have wifi on anyway. If you have already converted your stuff to epub, it would take minutes to covert ALL of them into mobi for your reader without effort. Set it up, go eat your dinner, and it will likely be done by the time you've finished washing the dishes.
Greasy fingerprints are EASY to wipe away with a microcloth. My Mom also had that issue, but using a stylus was too annoying when all she was doing was reading. It's easy to keep one right by your nightstand if you need it. Unfortunately, if you want a device that has buttons AND is lighted, you are stuck with getting the older technology. You can, however, also purchase one of those lights that clip on either the ereader or the cover that you purchase. The Nook Simple Touch, alas, I'm told no longer has buttons. The Kindle 6 inch still does, but no light. I use the Amazon 6 inch daily and made my own cover adding a M-light for those rare instances where I need added lighting. edited to add: Ok.. it seems that the Kindle 6 inch is what you are all referring to as the Kindle NT. |

New models from Icarus
From what I've read over on the good ereader website, Icarus recently released two models featuring buttons this year:
the relatively basic Icarus 8: (Icarus 8 review) and the fancier Icarus Illumina HD featuring buttons AND a touchscreen AND a frontlight: Icarus Illumina HD review According to the reviews, both can be purchased from shopereaders.com, the licensed North American distributor. I thought the Illumina sounded interesting, but I haven't scraped together the $200 to buy one to try. |

Tarana: thanks for the good ideas. I've quite a few microfiber clothes stockpiled since I'm nearsighted; I'll just keep one tucked in the cover with a built-in light that I recently purchased for my girlfriend's Kindle 4-NT-6"-Basic
![]() tracings: thanks for the introduction to Icarus ereaders and the links. After reading the reviews the 6" Illumina HD ascended to the top of my wish list, as it seems to have everything I'm wanting. I'll need to do some more in-depth research before purchasing but with a price around $119 on Amazon it's very inviting. Thanks again ![]() Last edited by LouieChuckyMerry; 11-16-2013 at 08:21 PM. If you don't have to go new, I picked up a beautiful Sony T2 refurb on eBay for under $70 shipped. Find a lighted cover for either T1 or T2 and you've got touchscreen, buttons and light for reading in the dark.

HarryT: after more research I, sadly, must agree. The majority of reviews I read make note of the subpar (at minimum, relative to the PaperWhite's) frontlight. It seems that on a deserted island (I prefer a dessert island myself) the Illumina HD's frontlight is fine (if a bit uneven), but next to the competition it's rather lacking. Sigh. High hope dashed...

ProfCrash: that made me laugh outloud, and I'm still smiling as I type this. Thanks for that. Will The Collective paste page up and page down buttons on either side of my Paperwhite's touchscreen, should I follow the cantillations?
