Choice is good, but too much choice can be a little overwhelming!
You could trim it down by removing some superfluous options like fewer/same/more pinholes (isn't it enough that it's either got them or not), the 3 different light settings in relation to the whiteness of the screen (just leave the low light choice) and the font thickness. That'd cut down the options by 12... though even then probably still too many for some ![]() Not that I have voted since I don't own a PW..... ![]() |

I think the results show that the screen is much improved overall, except that pinholes are just as common.

The PW 2013 for its price is the best available eReader on the market today. You can check others here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2400310,00.asp All have minor defects and each of us must make our own choices. |

Great poll, Jack. I find some things improved over the PW1 screen, some things the opposite, so your poll about covers everything, except the yellow screens on some of the PW2s.
I say, if anyone does not like this poll, they can go create their own. ![]() |

Ain't nobody got time fo dat? LOL, just kidding. The poll looks... intimidating, though. :P
I've watched several in-depth reviews on the new PP and carefully examined all the photos posted on our forum and come to the conclusion that the new PP is just gorgeous and obviously better than the previous one. I'll get her on Oct 15, yay!!! |

Conclusions from the poll-
Very interesting poll. At tad on the OCD side...
![]() The conclusions are mixed- Without light, looking at the different generations of eink alone, it seems eink Carta is not better. But when the lights go one, they are more uniform and the background is lighter. But the text doesn't necessarily have more contrast... so what's the point? Another conclusion- as in PW1, variations in the same model are great, and its sadly somewhat of a lottery. They rushed it into production for greed. Yet again. "light shadow effect"- what is that? The blotchiness? Last edited by Indigo121; 10-09-2013 at 03:44 AM. |

I have a PW2 because I couldn't wait. The first part of the poll is contradictory. The font can be less black but still have more contrast, which is actually the case with my PW2. It has slightly less dark font as compared to the PW1, but much brighter white (the background) making the contrast better than the PW1.
You can't really lump blacker with more contrast, it doesn't work that way. Contrast is the ratio of white to black, which can be achieved with either blacker blacks, whiter whites or both. |

Buying tip: If you are sensitive to the screen, the baby Kindle is even cheaper and has a much more consistent screen experience - very black text to boot. That is, if you can deal with case or external lighting of course. |

Having just received my PW2, the screen is (to my eyes) significantly better. The text is just as black as my PW1, but the background is distinctly lighter. The screen has a very pale yellow tint which I really like - it's a lot "warmer" than the PW1; if I had to describe it I'd say it's a similar colour to that of the paper on which most paperback books are printed.

I assumed it meant the shadows on the bottoms of the screen from the lights. On my PW1 it was very pronounced like theatrical stage lighting and created a diamond pattern of light and dark. However my PW2 has only a small amount of shadowing.

Even with the light on low? On my PW1, the shadow cones are only visible when the light is on high, or I'm in a dark room, and even then they are only visible on the bottom few mm of the screen. Doesn't affect the area of the screen on which the text is displayed at all.
