Ugh! Not sure what happened today, but I think that I am in a pickle!

For several months now, things have been peachy, then, today I decided to add another collection to the mix and wham! The kobo froze! Tried turning is off and then on again. It was slow, but did finally come back, but the books that I loaded I could not open as it said that they were DRM books. I know that they are not. So deleted them and tried again. This time, the kobo froze and I had to do a hard re-boot (with a paperclip). Had to do it three times! Again it said that the books were DRM. So I deleted again and tried a different batch. Still said that they were DRM.

So, I tired a sync, also went back through this post. Downloaded the koreader again. (Wish that I had saved the original that I downloaded before, the directions for this latest version I just can not seem to comprehend) I think that ultimately, I have not loaded it correctly.

After all of this, my kobo will not accept anymore of my calibre books!! Now here I am at the forum of wisdom once again asking for advice. Any and all will be greatly appreciated!

Install guide.

Are these the instructions you are using?

There may yet be an issue with some functions under Kobo 3.2.x firmware, works fine on my AuraHD 3.1.1

Luck;

@tadpole: My guess would be a corrupt database on the device. Signout on the device and then back in. This will create a new database and add the sideloaded books again. Any purchased books will need to be downloaded again.

Ken, Thank you.... and in answer to the question, no, I did not see these instructions. I have 25 more pages until I finish the book that I am currently reading. When completed, I will try again.

One question, or two, and the answer may be in the instructions, can I just add the new 'edition' or is it best to delete all the koreader files and start a new? I am not the most computer literate person. Maybe best to do a factory reset and just start from scratch?

Since your database maybe messed up and you want to use the Kobo reading software as well as the others, you probably should do the factory reset and have it update the firmware before using the guide to recover the installation of the alternate readers. You should do the first three steps and remove the .png files and folders mentioned if they are there. You need the Kobo software to properly process the .png files, all over again.

You should have a copy of all your books on your PC.

Luck;

Plug it in to a wall charger with a known-good cable, and do a hard factory reset (not just paperclip reset).

The problem is that it will not show the home screen so that I can do another factory reset. It is like it is stuck in limbo between being ejected from the computer and actually starting up.

A factory reset can be done using the buttons. But, first, plug it in for a while to charge and then hold the power slider in the off position for at least 20 seconds. This will force a power off and the squares should stop. Then, turn it on and see what happens.

If it doesn't start up properly, do a factory reset by:

- Hold the power slider in the off position for at least 20 seconds.
- Hold the light button down and turn it on.
- Release the light button when the LED at the top starts flashing.

That should do the factory reset. During the reset, there will be a couple of screen stating the steps. If this doesn't work, try again holding everything a little longer.

I am sorry I didn't explain how to do a factory reset. I just assumed that since you were mucking about with extended drivers and alternative reader software that you would know that.

Fingers crossed your device comes back fit and well.

Woo Hoo!! I am back up and running! And..... So far, and I think that I may keep my fingers crossed on this, it looks as though I may not even have to add the koreader onto it!

I added the collection that started all of this, the one that was deemed to be DRM, and it loaded on without a hitch!

Now I just have to reload the other 2000 books and I will be good as new! (Gotta be prepared for travel) Thanks again for everyone's help!

My thought was, 'Not again!?!' This morning I decided to add another book to my 'Next to Read' collection. So now I am wondering, is it the Kobo or is it Calibre?

When I first connected my Aura to the computer, I noticed that after selecting to 'connect', the screen wnet white for a couple seconds before it went to the 'black' screen that states it is connected and charging. I had never noticed it do this before. Then when it connected to calibre, it took 20m 37s to 'get list of book on device'. This in the past has only taken a minute or two. When the book was added... the Aura said that it was DRM book.

So today I have done, not one, but two factory resets. And now it is still taking Calibre 15 – 20 minutes to get the list of book and every book that I try to add is now deemed “DRM”. Even though the book was just on the Kobo Aura this morning.

After the last episode last week, I have put all of my books on the sd card. The books are still there and I can see them, I just can not add anymore. When I did the reset, I left the card in the Aura. I am scared to take it out as I fear that when I put it back in all the books will then be void.

So, again, I am asking for any and all suggestion's of what to do. Thanks in advance!

One of the Davids can probably address whatever you need to do to have your device work within Kobo's Database book management system and its quirks and corruptibility, or perhaps ... This approach might be less stressful.

Thanks Ken,

I have tried to add the koreader, but even that did not help. so am trying yet again to do a factory reset. I don't think that it is resetting properly though. I had assumed that a factory reset would return it to the way that it was when I very first unpacked it. But after the last couple resets, when I go to the collections, the collections are still there. I thought that the slate should be wiped clean so to speak.
