I never discuss books with anyone I know in my daily life except one brother who also reads. Long ago I learned not to invite the opinions of others about my reading habits.

I tracked books read on Goodreads for over a year before acquiring any friends, most of them from MR. I love seeing what they are reading and their ratings. I appreciate the "what are we reading" thread on this forum because of the many good recommendations. Many enjoyable books have come to my attention that I would have otherwise missed. I post less than half the books I read on that thread, mentioning only the ones that are outstanding or that someone else has mentioned.

The great thing about MR and Goodreads is that we can come out of the closet about our love of books. I love to hear what you are reading.

Pretty much the same for me. I don't feel the need to share my life with the world.

I totally understand which is why I keep my reading life away from the people I left when I got married although my mom and sis know I read romance they don't know I enjoy a good erotic romance now and then.

I participate in two online forums with readers -- this one and another that is geared toward book swapping. I find it fun to discuss books with people who are also readers. I am lucky to be in a family of readers -- my mother shared her love of reading with me and my sisters, I married a man who liked to read and whose parents were avid readers, and two of my kids are readers. Not only this, but we share some common interests in books, so there's an active bit of book trading and sharing. Everyone uses electronic readers except hubby's mother. She's 90 years old and has never used a computer or a smart phone -- though her 91 year old husband enjoys both.

Big fan of the 'What are we reading' thread but personally I am not a fan of socially sharing what I read to my circle.

There's Goodreads of course, but I quite like sharing with some of the members here and also catching up with what the others are reading. The What are you reading now? thread is one of the primary threads I visit every time I log on.

I also use the Goodreads shelves system to keep track of what I'm doing. I don't really broadcast that though. I think my shelves are only visible to those who have connected with me there. But there are some groups I'm a member of there where I do list and/or discuss books I'm reading with the other members.

I keep track of what I've read in the current Reading Challenge thread and the "What are we reading?" thread. It's mainly for me, so that I can see what I've read, and what I thought of it. Also to help keep track of my TBR list.

If others are interested, that's fine by me.

Track keeping is done in Calibre. I mark a book as Read: No as it comes into the library. After I read it, I mark it as Read: 2013.

Once in a while I'll also update a Calibre catalog with my read books per year.

The challenge thread is to keep me reading, because I have many hobbies and get sidetracked easily.

It depends on what I read. I tend to share political and religious books with my husband. Occasionally, if I read a good chick lit or romance book, I might share it with my sister as she reads books from those genre sometimes. There's no one else in my real life that I share my reading with.

I have some "friends" from other social media sites, including MR, that are also on my GR friends list. I have my GR profile set so that only people on my friends list can see it and by extension, my reading list.

This is the only reading forum I'm a part of, and I mostly do reading on here as well! But as far as broadcasting to everyone else what I read, no, nor do I care what anyone else is reading.

Not everything going on in ones life needs to be shared with the whole world.

I have a few friends/family that I will talk books with--we give each other recommendations all the time. I am kind of careful at times though--I am a regular church-goer and also a fantasy/sci-fi fan--some people don't think the two go together and I'm tired of defending it!

I wouldn't do anything on FaceBook (and don't have Twitter) unless it was an exceptional book.

If I find a really good book I tell it to a friend or a relative. I never use the "social features" of my readers. NSA and oher criminal organizations know already too much about me.

I don't really publicize what I'm reading very often, although I may mention it to friends. After I've read something I will often write a review at GoogReads or at the vendor's website if I enjoyed it. I usually don't write bad reviews because I don't see the need to penalize an author for what may be a matter of taste. The exception would be if the author misrepresented the book or was using the book to push commercial or political goals in a manner that I felt was deceptive.
