I believe that most major newspapers are now printed with non-toxic, vegetable based inks. the NY Times and Chicago Tribune both use this kind of ink. I checked these two specifically when we started doing worm composting, as I didn't want to murder 2,000 red wigglers.

I've bought newspapers half a dozen times over the past year, but I generally pick up a free daily five times a week. I much prefer the smaller free daily because it contains the essential news and very little filler. I can never get through their more costly cousins in the span of a day. I find most online news to be sensationalist garbage. (I'm guessing that the good stuff is behind paywalls.)

I ride my bicycle to the store and buy the Sunday 'Murky News' for the ads and funnies.
We also get the local 'free' Weekly in the drive. I skim-read a couple of on-line editions of the local papers. Last edited by theducks; 09-16-2013 at 08:38 PM. Reason: spelling |

I haven't bought a newspaper for a while. Sometimes when I take a long train ride I do. That said, the main reason is because of the cost. A years subscription here in Japan would probably cost me around $500 a year and I can read it at my local library for free. So while I do continue to read the newspaper regularly, I do it at my library's expense. If newspaper companies disappeared tomorrow what would we be left with? A bunch of internet aggregators that have never ever produced a single piece of original content in their existence. It would be a pretty uninformed world.

I read the IHT using newspaperdirect.com every day. We get paper newspapers from our neighbors for the dog and the parrot.

I only buy newspapers on Sundays, and only if there are coupon inserts. One week I bought 5 papers (Lots of good coupons in there), but I usually get 2-3. My son says I am addicted to couponing. He likes being able to raid my stockpile for something he needs, though.
Now I just have to find something to do with the papers. |

We have the local newspaper delivered daily. My husband reads it cover to cover; I usually read just a few sections.

I'm digital all the way. Most of the time, it's Google News. Occasionally, I'll read NWCN or the Seattle Times (digital) for the local stuff.

I dropped our newspaper a year ago. And they called us eight times wanting us to subscribe again. This was after notifying them both in writing and by email.
Guess they are hurting..... |

I'm not sure there is such a thing as an "honest to God" newspaper. Most of them have a rotten agenda of misinforming readers to their own rotten ends. Most of them (not all), but the majority (and certainly the ones with the widest readership) would serve the world better if they ceased to exist.
