The correct message is "Transport endpoint is not connected.."
Also it occurs only when i put a space before the "|".. like "./pal |more"
"./pal|more" works as expected..
But once i get the "Transport endpoint.." error, all further calls to ./pal give the same message
Are you also entering the quote characters that you show above?

no.. i'm not entering the quote chars.. just used them to show the actual stuff keyed in or output..

Well, in that case, something is not correct.
There should be no difference between:
Code:
./pal|more
and:
Code:
./pal |more
Unless something, somewhere, has reset the IFS string in the command shell.

OR
you are using
Code:
\
rather than
Code:
|
(the second, correct, pipe character is the uppercase of the backslash key).
